Curls with out the crunch

I need recommendations for products that help hair hold a curl with out making my hair hard and crunchy. Most curly hair products seem to be designed to enhance natural curls, which I don't have so I'm not sure what to try. I think I definitely need something that gives some hold though because my hair doesn't hold a curl well.

I typically use Garnier Wonder Waves to keep my hair curly because it works really well but I hate how hard my hair feels. It looks soft but feels like I coated it in glue. It's so nasty feeling!

This stuff works pretty well for me... just from our local drug stores.

Look for some type of setting lotion... I'm not sure if they've got that particular product in the US.

Is that Wonder Waves a spray thing or a mousse? I have tried using a mousse on my hair, I think it was Nivea Flexible Curls or something like that. I used it only a couple of times on damp hair. It left my hair soft and not crunchy at all, as if I didn't put anything on it.
I can't really tell if it helps holding the style though... my hair is straight and won't curl with anything but soft foam rollers, but the curls I get generally last a lot even if I don't use any special product. I mean, I can't see any difference in curl definition or lasting time if I use this mousse or not.

It's a spray. I have never tried a mouse that didn't give me crunchy hair but that could've just been because that was back in the early 90s when crunchy poodle perms were very in style. I am looking at all sorts of products online and can't find one that doesn't say "for naturally curly or wavy hair" or "for thick and curly hair".

The Nivea product looks great but I'm not sure I can get it in the US. I'll have to poke around on Amazon but first I'll check some stores for a similar product.

The crunchy feeling normally happens when you use a bit too much generally. When it happens to me, I can normally 'scrunch' it away.
