Color Fades out FAST?

Hello! πŸ™‚ I had my hair bleached and dyed a dark blue on March 4. And dyed AGAIN about a week and a half later. After the first dye job, I waited 3 days to wash it and when I did wash it almost all of the blue came out and it was kind of a seafoam green? Totally not the color I wanted! So I went back to my hairdresser and explained to her what happened, so she put a more concentrated version of the hair dye on my hair along with tin foil. I've only washed my hair 4 or 5 times since I had it redyed and its already so light at the tips you can start seeing the blonde from the bleach. I have natural auburn hair(which she said is the hardest color to strip?) if I redye I'd like to go purple if possible. Any tips? πŸ™

Ok, do you know what brand of dye you're using? I'm guessing it's semi permanent since you mentioned diluting it.Some last much better than others.

Also if you've been having it done at the hairdresser you probably haven't been leaving it on long enough. Typically I leave my semi permanent dye in for four hours or overnight if I want a colour to last. This really helps it to not fade.

How you wash it also has an effect. Sulphates in shampoo wash out dye really fast, so if you want to keep the colour bright for longer then I would suggest conditioner only washing (co washing) which is much kinder to semi colours. There are other things you can do like mixing some dye in to your daily conditioner to keep it bright and washing in cool water.

Is your current hair colour more green or blue? It will be pretty easy to get to purple if it's still quite blue.

I believe it is chromasilk? She left it on for about 20 minutes as per the bottle said. I'm not sure if my shampoo has sulfates, I've just been using colorsafe shampoo. In some parts it's still blue, mostly towards my roots though. But everywhere else is greenish, but with a few blue parts as well

Color safe shampoos aren't useful for these kinds of dyes.

Here's a great thread on keeping fashion colours vibrant πŸ™‚ there's a bit of an art to it, but it's easy when you know how!

Can you post a photo of your current colour? It might still be blue enough to go purple with ease.

Pravana chromasilk Vivids? That is a great brand, but 20 minutes is not long enough for longevity. Leaving these types of dye on for 4 hours or more ensures the longest lasting result.
If you are seeing a lot of green tones it could be that your base wasn't lightened enough, especially if you had old colour on your hair when it was bleached.
Sulphate free shampoo or conditioner only washing and cool water will help to preserve the colour, 'colour safe' shampoos are still stripping for direct dyes.
You can also add a little dye to your regular conditioner to keep the colour topped up.

Yes, Pravana Chromasilk Vivids. The first dye job she did she mixed blue? and neon blue together and I really liked the color. We had to bleach it twice but it was still a bit orangey in a few places. Its never been dyed where its currently dyed. I have the underside of my hair colored, but before that all I've had it my bangs purple

Here is the pictures of my hair!

Do you think I can safely go purple??

No. If it's really as green as it looks here, then you'll need to get more of the green out. Blue is a really bad option on hair that has an orange base, she should have started you on purple. Purple goes quite well over ginger/yellow because the pink times hide it. Blues is the opposite of orange so it will always fade to an icky colour. Blue over yellow will fade green very quickly. Purple is a better option for you anyway, but you need to get the green faded more first.

What could I do to make it light enough for purple? I also like kind of an emerald green I guess? Would that be better?

Eh, Emerald would be great for the yellow bits, maybe not so great for the orange bits. However, if you're comfortable with the orange bits going towards a tealy green then it's possible.

Thank you for your help! I've never had bleached and dyed hair so I'm a total newbie to this kinda thing. I got some new greenish kinda tealy color today! Hopefully this will look decent πŸ™‚
Would I have to rebleach my hair to dye it green? (sorry if this is stupid lol) or should I just put it over the existing color?

No, there's no need to bleach again. Though, as it's been over 4 weeks you might want to spot bleach the orange parts to match the yellow parts.
