Cherry Brown Hair from Bright Red?

Does anyone know of a box dye that achieves this look?  Doesnt have to be exact, but you get the idea.. a dark brown/cherry or wine look. I want to go back to something similar to my natural color (dark brown) but add a nice change to it! πŸ™‚ thanks

first photo is me now, the others are desirable look!

I have a similar colour to this at the moment, I dyed mine with a Wella Koleston permanent mahogany colour dye (I think I used 5/4 or 5/5) but it faded really fast (due to the bleach underneath the red dye) so I top it up with Adore Mahogany, and if I want it more red I just mix a bit of my old red dye into the Adore.

I have also used L'Oreal semi permanents and Clairol temporary dyes but I live in the UK and I'm guessing you don't, so I don't think there would be much use in giving you the names of the colours!

I'm currently looking at the L'OrΓ©al FΓ©ria line because I think those would be a good fit. But I'm not sure if It's considered more of their red or violet selections

In my experience the red or violet will be what fades out first so you'll end up with a brown base either way- then you can use Adore/ Directions/ Special Effects to add whatever tone you want, I tend to keep an Adore Mahogany (for the deep brown tones) and a few reds, purples and gingers in so I can mix whatever tone of brown I fancy at the time. The red you already have on your hair will determine the outcome somewhat too, so it might be a bit of a work in progress to get the exact shade you want! (I used to use a ginger L'Oreal Feria dye and it used to fade from bright red to strawberry blonde in about 5 weeks, faster than a Special Effects direct dye!)

I have some leftover semi dyes from sfx so I'll check what I have! I'm mostly concerned for right now not so much when the violet color fades, my anniversary is tomorrow and I was planning on doing the transition tonight.

I picked up these two. Which would you suggest more?! I'm worried the deep one won't show up enough violet but I'm worried the medium will be too bright since my hair is pretty bright lol! I may add one of my semi reds to the mix a tiny bit to make sure it isn't too purple

For an update.
I used L'OrΓ©al medium intense violet and then put special effects burgundy wine over it

Below is my hair Vs look I want.
Do you think if I use color oops and get back to the brassy light brown/yellow tones I had and use L'OrΓ©al FΓ©ria in medium inside violet again, I'd get rid of the red and look more like this shade?

Sorry I didn't answer previously, different time zone! I went to bed early as I have the flu! What is it you don't like about the colour you acheived? is it that it's too red? I don't think I'd bother removing all the colour to start over again (unless you're going to just use direct dyes after doing so) as it's another process to use another box dye afterwards. It doesn't look too far off what you're trying to acheive to me, I would recommend Adore Mahogany again though, that's the colour I used to get what you are trying for.

So sorry to hear! Feel better πŸ™

And yes, I'm trying to steer away from red and go more a shade closer to my natural dark brown color. Like that in the photo.

I'll probably leave it as I have plans today. It's a pretty color just not sure I want to keep it.

I'm gonna purchase the adore color you suggested because I don't have that one currently

Thanks for all your help πŸ™‚

Thank you! πŸ™‚

I think it does look pretty as it is, so if you can stand to have it for the time being at least then at least you can work your way towards the colour you want. You may find eventually that you just want to use dark brown shades and let the red shine through a little rather than using reddish/ violety browns if you are having trouble with it coming through too much, but try the Adore Mahogany and if that is still too red, try moving on to a brown shade by them maybe?

Unfortunately transition from one colour to another can often be a bit of a work in progress and it's not always something you can do very quickly, but we can at least advise you of some options to get there with minimal damage!

Don't do color oops, get color fix instead, the color oops is absolute crap, its unnecessarily damaging and does a crappy job compared to color fix

I was horrified when I once used color oops and saw my hair after! Didn't know there was a better alternative. Thanks for the suggestion.

Also be careful using a box dye after colour remover, it can make it re-oxidise and send it back dark, best to give it a few days and wash it a few times to make sure it is fully gone.

I don't know what your hair history is, but mine was bleached, dyed red with a direct dye, then dyed with a permanent brown dye and I have a lot of trouble with the colour coming out uneven due to the way parts of my hair are more damaged and porous, this is the main reason I top up regularly with direct dyes.
