Can't decide between silver shampoos

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to pick between two silver shampoos.
One being the L'Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Silver Shampoo 1500ml at £14.45 or Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo - Sulfate Free 1000ml at £25.55.
Both come with free delivery.

I have the L'Oreal silver shampoo and loved it and used it all. I bought the Bleach London and love the shimmer it gives my hair but it's barely lasted. It is more cost effective per ml compared to the Provoke one, but because of lack of a dispenser, I use more product. I just want that shimmer and feel like Provoke isn't strong enough for me.
I've heard many recommend the Joico one and wonder if it's worth the tenner more and 500ml less? Is the Joico one stronger? Has anyone experienced both? Would anyone recommend a different big bottle of silver shampoo?

Hopefully someone can help me decide 🙂

I've only used the Joico, but that stuff was amazing and really, really pigmented.  It is a deep violet shade, and five minutes over pastel pink was enough to tint it to a dusty rose colour that lasted about three washes.

I like the Joico shampoo & conditioner. Got mine from TKmaxx tho not online. If you have one local it might be worth a visit - the 1000ml is about £18 and the 500ml about £12 (from memory) so a cheaper way to test it out if your not sure about it. 🙂

I would never spend £25 on a bottle of shampoo personally. I would make my own by adding some violet dye to my favourite shampoo. Something strongly pigmented like SFX or Pravana.

Technically, that's what I thought is the best, but there's just something in purple shampoos that make them work a touch better than mixing a hairdye with a shampoo/conditioner... They almost like distribute the product more evenly, and don't stain your hair more purple than it is necessary, I don't know if it's to do with the formulation or what, but I seemed to have better/more even/more silver than purple resuults with shampoo

I'd love to hear your insight

I think there is a difference between toning your hair in preparation for another colour, and toning your hair as your colour.  I have both made my own and bought shampoo, and I do like silver shampoo, especially if you want a more shimmery effect. Zaralily, have you tried Bonacure yet? That's my favourite.

Thanks for posting, I got a question! What hair colour did you have when you started using bonacure shampoo? What colour did it go after first wash/es? Thanks!

I primarily used it as a toner before blues mostly, and I have been using it over Pravana Silver.  My hair is very very resistant to going grey/silver so mostly over bleached roots it will add a shimmery cast over pale blonde. It will tone well but will not turn it silver for a long time.  I have only experienced it toning straight to silver when I have had some accidental overlap. Pippa's hair however will turn silver straight away if left on for any more than 10 mins.  Her hair grabs it very well.  So well we have to be careful to try to keep unwanted grey/silver tones from her hair.

It does seem to depend on your hair to an extent. Even if my hair is lifted to around the same shade I still don't absorb it very well, and so I also use silver dyes.

We tend to apply a reasonable amount and leave on for a while, I've left it on for a couple of hours before.

What colour are you trying to achieve?

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't replied, haven't really been on the forum as been doing so much overtime at work!

I feel like I really want the Joico!
Wow, good tip, I'll check out my local TKMaxx 😀 Thank you KatyPockets!
I prefer silver shampoo, it feels like less hassle and doesn't give you the shimmer that silver shampoo does,  Wicked Pixie. Although every now and then, I do pop on a diluted purple/conditioner mix 🙂 I really want a good silver shampoo and 1000ml will last me a long time as long as it has a pump dispenser, otherwise it'll go everywhere! Lol. Plus I don't treat myself with anything really so I think my hair is a good place to start 🙂
Yes, I totally agree crowcrow. For me it's the shimmer it gives me. I feel like a sparkling silver fox or some other cute animal! Ahahaha.
I've never tried Bonacure, KneeHighSusan.
Is this it?

(I can't see any products on that website that BeeUnique sell on here)
With postal I'll be looking around £12 so it is cheaper, and I've seen it mentioned alot and seen it on Pippa's hair! And your hair looked amazing Pippa!
I want it a grey/silver tone! 🙂 I have only been leaving it on for 2 minutes as I've been too busy with overtime atm and just need to sleep.
I need to sit down at the weekend and pop silver shampoo on and leave it for a few hours.
My hair looks like this now:

I just feel like I need it more silver as it just feels ashy to me.
I'm going to pop into TKMaxx this weekend as I'm very nearly out of silver shampoo now to see if I can find Joico cheaper, otherwise I'll pick up some Bonacure.
Do boots/superdrug do the big bottles of Bonacure in store? I can't find it on the website.

Thank you everyone! 🙂 I really appreciate your input.

I've never seen Boots or Superdrug selling it full stop, I've only found it offline in hair supply shops, and only ever in the small bottles, but that is the right one.  I was in Tkmaxx the other day looking for Joico, and saw some Bonacure but sadly not the silver variety.

Just wanted to let you all know, I just picked up a HUGE bottle (1250mL) of Bonacure Silver from TKMaxx for £14.99. They only had 2 bottles, and only in this size.

They also had lots of Joico products for the same price.
