Black dye running through my ends

As you can see by my avatar, I have a black to red type of ombre'. Anytime I try and touch up my roots or freshen up my black, the dye runs through my ends and I end up with brown ends and have to completely re-bleach my ends again.

Basically, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for preventing this? I thought maybe putting something like vaseline on the ends might stop the dye from running through my ends.. but I have no idea how I'd go about getting the vaseline out of my hair, lol.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! πŸ˜€

Ive had different dip dyes of various colours ,  one was a dark choc brown to orange,  so understand what you mean.  I used to put coconut oil on the ends whilst redoing the dark brown and rinsing it out,  it did run for the first few washes after recolouring, so again I used to put coconut oil on the ends to stop them picking up the run off dye.  Ive also read of people using conditioner on the ends in the same way.

I'll give that a go, thank you! πŸ˜€

I was thinking coconut oil too... I'm not familiar with the black hair dye you use but if it runs into your ombre enough to dye it as well, I guess it's a pretty liquid one? Have you tried a different, creamier dye?

Permanent black is a tricky one to keep from other colors. Permanent color will eat through anything ( oils, conditioner, etc) because of the peroxide it contains. You should try those methods but the likelihood of them working 100% is very slim.
