Been asked to help a friend's 13 year old

My friend's 13 year old daughter is starting to venture into the world of colouring her hair, and given my obsession with constantly changing the colour of mine, my friend has asked me to give her some advice / tips.  (Things like what to do / not to do / what she can get away with at home vs using a hairdresser etc.)

Now obviously she's not going to be doing crazy colours just yet (for school if nothing else), and I can share my experiences (I started with henna at 14) - but I thought I'd put something on here to see if you lovely lot have any top tips I should pass on to her.

What is her schools policy on hair colour?

I don't know specifically WikedPixie - but I imagine it's nothing too outrageous.  I know she's tried those 'wash in wash out' red dyes a couple of times and gone to school with them, and her mum has talked about henna - so as long as it's not purple or something I think it'll  be OK.

Henna is a big commitment, it is totally permanent and has to be grown out. It also limits your options in terms of what other types of dye you can use.
A semi in a red/orange/magenta/purple over her natural colour might be a better option, as it won't permanently alter her hair.
