It looks like it's not a single hair color, I think he has grey highlights over his natural color. You should bleach some strands (the highlights) until it gets to pale yellow and then use a violet toner.
I'm not a professional, so I may not be right, but that's what I would try

Yea I'm just wondering if the typical "black hair red undertone" can achieve the ashy look, like his base color.
I'd say that's natural grey. I could be wrong though.
It can be possible to get past the red undertone, but not for everyone. I have a Japanese friend that can never get past the red. It's always just tinged red. It can go ash with toning, but ash brown and not ash blonde.
You'd have to do a strand test on your hair to see if it'll go blonde with bleach.

Hi! Thank you! So with bleach I should be able to get that color? And to get to a ash blonde you have to get rid of the red right? Should I go to a professional to do this?
If you don't think you can do it, go to the hairdresser.
I don't know if you can get it. You might be able to, it depends how much red is in your hair. As I said, you'd have to try a strand test.

Thank you! I will go to a hair dresser
