Ash grey hair [toning/dye?]

I've recently used a box dye over my bleached blonde hair, around level 8 on the bleaching chart. [original hair color was black]

The dye was Palty's Marshmellow Ash, and I ended up with a hair color similar to the lady in the video below

I found that I really liked this color, but it soon faded to a light neutral brown after a few washes.

I've tried toning with a selfmade toner [conditioner+ liberal amounts of directions violet and lilac] , and left it on for around 1 hour in an attempt to get back that color.

All it did however was to make the brown more muddy in color, though it did have a slight ash tinge to it.

Is there anything I can do to get that grey color back?

Thanks!

I think you'd want a darker bluer purple rather than lilacs and violet. How much I don't know, you'd have to experiment.

You can try pravana silver dye. I've seen people get good results with that.

For pravana silver you do need a light base, brown is too dark. It's also not as dark as the result in the video. It does give a lovely gunmetal sort of grey. My topic with what base I had and the result is here : http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=12758.0 . Maybe that helps. πŸ™‚ If you're going to try pravana silver, don't be alarmed at the colour that comes out of the tub. It's pretty purple, haha, but the result is grey.
