Hello!
After several bleach attempts to get a nice "pale inside of a banana" color from my natural black hair, my hair is really dry, brittle, and frizzy. To make it look healthier I decided to invest in a brazilian blowout and I really love it but I want to make my actual hair situation better even when the brazilian blowout treatment fades out.
I would just like to ask, how often can i use argan oil on my hair? Can I use it every time I condition my hair, which is usually every other day/every 2 days? Do I just mix a little oil to the conditioner on my palm and condition as normal, or should I apply a few drops of oil on my damp hair after conditioning like a leave-in conditioner? If I'm applying it on my hair a few times a week, can I also do deep conditioning treatments once a week where i add a few drops of the oil on my hair and scalp and wrap it up with a shower cap for about 2 hours? What do you guys do? I would really like your opinion on this so I can get my hair in good condition again even when the "illusion" of brazilian blowout runs out. Also, my hair is currently dyed with SFX pimpin purple and i definitely don't want to fade that yet. *thx*
I generally use coconut oil as a leave in while my hair is damp, (it is obviously much cheaper than argan oil, I also find it better for shaping my hair, as I like to straighten the natural curl out while it is drying) then add a couple of drops of Argan to smooth and add shine when it is dry. I don't wash my hair very often, so if it gets frizzy or dry at the ends I will add some more. It absorbs fully so you don't get an oily build up. I love everything about argan oil except the smell (and the price tag lol)
Thank you for the quick response *hugs*
I actually tried coconut oil yesterday (I made my own pure coconut oil since coconut is accessible to where I am), I deep conditioned it for 2 hours but ended up with dry and brittle hair after rinsing it and shampooing (SLS free), I conditioned it as normal and was able to get soft hair again but I refused to admit defeat so I decided to add a little bit of coconut oil to the tips while it was damp but then when it air dried I ended up with soft hair and brittle tips. I did a quick google search and found out some people's hair really do end up getting dry from coconut oil that's why I decided to go ahead and get the pricier argan oil. Lol.
I'm still undecided whether I should mix it up with my conditioner or use it as a leave-in conditioner. Will mixing it with conditioner dilute it and defeat the purpose of using argan oil? Lol
You might want to avoid the coconut oil a bit then. I have the same issue with it making my hair brittle, but not many others seem to! I've found now I swim a lot, I can use coconut oil a bit more, it does help if I use it before swimming, but I still have to be careful. I mostly stick to argon oil. Even though I dislike the smell too!
How do you apply argan oil to your hair janineb? π
Maybe I will try coconut oil again in a few months. Haven't used the argan oil yet. Probably trying it today or tomorrow. ;D
Put a little in my palm, again depends what I'm doing with how much, a drop or two for leave in. Rub my hands together and smooth it through. Or maybe just through the ends if that's all it needs. There's no great trick to it π coconut is a bit different because you have to melt it first, but that's the only real difference.
I used the argan oil as a leave in conditioner, applied it on my damp hair after shampoo and conditioner and my hair feels softer and smoother than ever. Definitely an improvement from the coconut oil. I guess I'll be using this for awhile. π
Well I wouldn't recommend using any Argan oil that isn't pure because that is when you will run into side effects. The problem if you are using pure Argan oil is that it gets quite expensive and it doesn't go too far on the hair. So adopting a Moroccan oil for hair practice everyday might get costly but I have done it before and it worked well. Using every second or third day is probably the most realistic though. Make sure to obtain an organic product and once again only mess with the pure stuff.
