Lilac is a difficult color to achieve as you need a very pale base but the upkeep is easier as you can easily top it up with a well pigmented purple shampoo or a darker purple diluted in conditioner. It is a good choice if you want less upkeep but it will take time to remove all the color you have right now as your base needs to be very pale/white for lilac to take.
Thanks you. I'll fade my current colour first and have the base done at the hair dressers. It can go quite pale without to much damage. I wasn't sure on brand though. I've used directions lilac before but wasn't that impressed.
My friend who does lilac shades quite frequently dilutes purple dyes down by mixing them with conditioner rather than using an already pastel lilac dye. It does still fade quickly though!
