Last night I had home-made houmous, along with eating pretty much my body weight in sugar snap peas. Damn they're good. Anyway, I don't know why houmous is so expensive when you buy it ready made - it's so cheap and easy to make!
Also, I've spent months trying to perfect gluten-free bread; I've mastered cakes and pastries but bread is the trickiest. I think I've cracked it now though, having made a truly addictive whisky and hazelnut bread the other day. Time to whip up another loaf or two this morning!
And that potato soup recipe looks amazing!
well now its morning so i am eating cereal π but yesterday i had fish nuggets with some noodles
My Minions wanted a cereal night, so I had Corn Chex, my eldest had Rice Krispies, and my youngest had Cheerio's. π
I googled corn chex, and i'm so excited. They sound like Kellogs old Crispix that I love and havent been able to get hold of for years! Late night food shopping for me.
I freaking love Chex. It used to be one of my favourites stateside ... that and Kix. And Life!
These recipes sound lovely!
Well, it's morning here now and I'm sipping my first cuppa coffee. *yawn* But I'm loving the ideas for later! π Cjiadon, that recipe sounds super easy and really yummy, too! I think we'll have to give that a try.
We've been trying to get ourselves on a bit of a schedule, to try to establish some routines and more predictability in our chaotic household. It's also helping me plan meals and shopping lists better. I like to try new recipes... but sometimes I plan too many new things in the same week and then I get overwhelmed. This helps me still plan for new things and old favourites, but within my limits. π
Here's what we do:
Monday is grocery shopping day.
Monday - casserole night (any one-dish meal)
Tuesday - kids cook the meal (they choose the menu, make the shopping list, prep, cook, serve and clean up... serves many purposes including but not limited to giving mom a break. π They learn their way around the kitchen and how to work as a team. They take turns choosing the main dish and there is a new "head chef" each week.
Wednesday - Mexican night (tacos if we're pressed for time and need something easy)
Thursday - Something easy. Could be sandwiches or salads, or leftovers, or cereal. Then Thursday night is family movie night. We rent a movie and have popcorn and homemade hot cocoa in the winter. π
Friday - Fall/Winter/Spring: soup night! Summer: something on the grill
Saturday - homemade pizza night
Sunday - if the weather is nice, we have a picnic at the park or a campfire in the backyard. If it's not, we eat simple finger foods and maybe watch a movie or play board games.
last night I had some party food because it was my mums birthday. Duck spring rolls, chicken skewer things and rice with pita bread. Tonight, I have no idea, maybe some soup, exciting.
Ooo, I am very tempted to scratch my idea of making a lentil soup and go for homemade pitas and hummus! Maybe go out and get some fresh veggies at the Saturday market and make vegetarian pita sandwiches...mmm
Tonight we're having sausage and mash with mixed veg and gravy, yum! I'm only having a small portion though as trying to cut down my fat intake!
Today I am having my final 'naughty' meal before I get really serious about losing some weight in time for my photoshoot on the 12th Oct, so I am having proper posh steak burgers from M&S with cheese. In buns. A bit of a carb overload, but I know that if I cut out carbs totally, I will lose weight quickly and noticeably, so I'll be doing that for a few weeks in the run up to my shoot. I wouldn't do it for extended periods of time, as it's really not good for your body, but temporarily, it's ok. So I'm overloading on my last carb meal today!
Sixteen of us are off out for dinner to celebrate my FIL's 75th birthday.
I have no idea what I'm going to eat but who cares; I don't have to cook it myself -- hooray!!
Mindi, enjoy your indulgence! π
I have been able to drop an easy 15 pounds (just better than a stone) by reducing my carbs. But that's all the further I ever get... I don't go completely carb-free. I still eat loads of fresh fruit and veggies. I mainly just cut out grains/breads/pastas. But it's not a lifestyle I feel like I can really adopt forever. I would go broke trying to feed my family that way!
FizzWhizz, enjoy the meal out for your FIL's birthday!

I agree that it's not something that can be sustained for long periods of time, but it does work as a short-term way to lose weight quick! And it is expensive! All that meat!
Tonight, we are having Pizza Slut.

Yes, meat is outrageously expensive. But dang, it's so tasty! π
Tonight is homemade pizza. I've got to get the crust going pretty soon. Yum!
Tomorrow is going to be Shepherd's pie. I've got two smaller lamb shoulders (about 1 kg each) that I'm going to roast up for it this afternoon. I've never roasted a lamb shoulder before... most places I've read say low and slow. I'll probably do a little olive oil, garlic and fresh rosemary in the pan. I'll probably also boil the taters to mash ahead of time as well... save some work tomorrow. π
Right now I'm seriously considering swimming across the Atlantic and coming to your house for tea!!
Just ordered a chicken burger and chips.
