Found (about 6 months ago, only just got round to listening!) another podcast that is really funny! "My Dad Wrote a Porno" and that's exactly what it is! This guy's dad wrote an "erotic" novel and he reads it out with his two friends. It's a TERRIBLE book and it leads to some real fun, but in a loving way, they're never mean to the dad in anyway (he's apparently writing more as well to make a series lol). Obviously, there's lots of mentions of bodily parts and sex, so don't go for it if that's going to offend π
I heard that mentioned on This American Life (I think) the other day and wondered what it was, I'll give it a listen it sounds pretty funny.
'Grown Ups read things they wrote as kids'. So funny!
I just realised I never got back to you about My Dad Wrote a Porno - I absolutely love it! So, so funny! (his grasp of anatomy! Ridiculous!
I've just downloaded a few eps of that grownups... one, it sounds similar to Mortified which I really like. I've been listening to Spontenaenation (yes, I had to google the spelling!) a lot recently as I have developed a mild obsession with Paul F Tompkins since listening to Dead Authors.
Ooh that sounds like a good one, adding to my podcasts now! I met count how many I'm subscribed too lol
Yes, it is like mortified! Also, risk is another similar thing, I've not listened to it in a while, but I seem to remember it's more about recounting really embarrassing times. It's really funny.
My dad wrote a porno is a firm favourite now, I've listened through a couple of times to what's out so far lol
Ooh I'll look up Risk too, I like any that are based around people telling true stories really - I was listening to The Moth quite a lot but it kept being emotional and making me cry on the bus or the plane haha!
I'm not quite caught up on My Dad Wrote a Porno as I didn't realise Series 2 had started til last week, I'm so glad it's back! I've been recommending it to everyone but nobody seems to want to take me up on it!
3rd series of my dad wrote is shaping up to be a goodun! It's a return to form as the last series wasn't quite as good in the end, though still very funny.
I was a bit worried about it coming back, hoping that it hadn't got too 'knowing' but it has been very funny so far! (I think he had already written quite a few of the books before they started the podcast though hadn't he?)
I've been going a bit podcast crazy the last few months as my youngest brother bought me a 12 month subscription to Howl for Xmas so I've been listening to a lot of the ones on there (mostly american comedy ones).
Did you listen to S Town, that new one from the people who did Serial?
Yeah, I think there's like 8 books already (well, to be honest, more like pamphlets by the sounds of the length of them lol π )
I did listen to S Town! Fascinating and very sad. I binged it the first day it came out. I want to listen to it again as I'm sure I missed a lot. The end was a bit abrupt though, I thought I'd missed an episode, but it was strangely fitting at the same time.
That's true, they can't be very long books can they? I listened to an episode on my walk home from work today, smirking to myself all the way!
I binged S Town too, I think I might listen again. Very sad indeed, what a fascinating story it was though. I thought that too about feeling like there was an episode missing! I listened to one called Stranglers too which I found had a similarly abrupt ending.
