Sorry about it being so small!
This is my 2 year old border collie Poppy π
She's beautiful. I love borders; they're fantastic dogs. My family had one for 15 1/2 years (she passed away this winter).
She's so kind hearted, and a big softie, really dizzy sometimes though bless her!
wow 15 years is an impressive age for them to live too, and sorry she passed away. π
I big kick for this topic!
I recently got the most adorable and cuddly gift! Here she is :
My friend gave her to me. Friend picked up this hamster and her sister from a person who said they'd go to the pet store otherwise. Because she was going on holiday. -_- Some people.. So my friend took two sisters home and gave one to me and I'm very happy to have her! Haven't decided on a name yet, though it'll probably be Saffron (or rather the Dutch equivalent).
I have 2 black cats (rescued), Loki & Luna. They're brother & sister. Both totally nuts but couldn't imagine my life without them.
A bearded dragon called Arnie.
3 tarantulas, who don't have proper names! We had few spiderlings but the cats managed to murder them all π
Aaaand my fab horse, Bowser π he's a gorgeous, chunky, dapple grey IDx with a set of huge ears and huge personality to match. Love him.
Anyone else got horses?
We NEED to see a pic of Bowser!
Oh I love him! I used to ride a huge grey ID x TB mare, she was 17.2 and a complete poppet.
He's wonderful π
What a beautiful horse and such great photos!
Thanks, all π he's a total poppet. Love him.
Although the temptation to smother his mane and tail in Pravana Violet is sometimes too much!! Especially this time of year when he's usually mud-coloured lol.
I'm bringing up this topic because of my new pet! She doesn't have a name yet.
She's a fat-tailed gerbil. I'm not completely sure it's the correct English name, but that's what we call it in the Netherlands. They are a lot like Syrian hamsters. Nocturnal, solitary life, omnivore, etc. And they are just so CUTE. <3
We call them Duprasi! I LOVE Doops, and would love to get some more, probably my favourite exotic rodent and i have kept a lot of exotic rodents in my time lol. Duprasi are wonderful, so cute and cuddly. I always kept mine in groups though, and they were very mellow with each other.
Really? I've had several of them before and I had to seperate them because of tail biting. I got one from a shelter where he was brought in with two brothers and their tails were just one big mess. One of them hardly had a tail left! I've seen what they can do to eachother and had to nurse a few back to health with antibiotics because of infected tail bites, so I always keep them solitary.
Could it be space related? What kind of space did they have with you? Or did you keep them in groups with intent to breed? I've heard some stories of succesfully housing multiples in one cage, but I've heard and seen more of those that went wrong. I always think of it as Russian dwarf/winter white hamsters. They're not solitary in nature, but when held in captivity, it goes wrong more often than not.
I loooove them too, by the way! π I saw one years and years ago at a rodent fair and was captivated by their appearance. When I was home I went on a big search for info and found that there was little, or it was conflicting info from one place to the other. Most of how I keep them now is from experience and talking to breeders and stuff.
Now I'm curious what other exotic rodents you have kept. π
I used to have sugargliders, but they're not rodents. And these gerbils. And that's where my exotic animal story stops, hahaha. I want a hedgehog SO bad, but I don't have the space right now. My cousin's girlfriend breeds them though, so if I decide I do have space in the future, there will be a white bellied hedgehog for me! π
I think space plays a factor, but also genetics, captive populations get very inbred. I never had any aggression issues at all with my own line, but the ones at work were quite vicious. It was assumed that they were social when they were first available, these days more people are saying solitary, i think somewhere in between as family groups will happily stay together. I do think they need a sand substrate and live food as a major part of their diet, especially if you want them to breed.
I kept mine in glass tanks, the smallest of which were 30 inches, most were bigger 3 or 4 foot and 15-18 inches wide, so they had lots of space
I have kept a lot of exotic mammals over the years including Sugar Gliders and various hedgehogs.
Exotic rodent wise I have had various species of Spiny mice, Multimammates, lemmings, several species of jirds, Harvest mice, Pygmy mice, African Pygmy Dormice, Asian Garden dormice, Gambian pouched rats, various jerboas, Mara, mouse-like hamsters, Zebra mice, Acacia rats, Southern flying squirrels, Richardson's ground squirrels, and probably a few more that I can't think of right now lol
Gah, so cute! The coat is really pretty.
