(my only concern is that I'd take the honey/fruit stick out, chinese hams are really prone to diabetes (mine had it) so I'm always really vigilant about that sort of thing) πŸ™‚

Thanks for the warning, in hindsight I was being really ditzy with this since I knew about the diabetes from keeping a Campbell's/WW hybrid (luckily he never developed it). I tend to only put them in for a little while and take them out again, but I actually have a spare millet treat left over (no honey or sweet things in it) so I figure she might be better with that. Again, thanks, as I say, bit of a ditzy moment there!! πŸ™‚

She's got all the deep bedding and card etc already, seen her burrowing around a little bit already hihi. ^^

Do you know if they like climbing much? I'd heard they did, and I've observed other peoples' chineses climbing up things but I haven't noticed her trying to climb any of the toys or anything yet...? My RC/WW always climbed stuff, but I think he was a bit unusual in that.

In my experience, although they're good at climbing, because they're timid I and every other chinese hamster owner I know has seen them enjoying burrowing more than climbing. I used to put cork tunnels in Sesame's cage, and she would climb up them no problem but enjoyed running through it more. I also put bamboo branches, etc but she showed little to no interest in them.. so I think broad things like the tunnel and log bridges would be more of a hit.

With the millet, A chinese hamster with full pouches = flipping hilarious. I used to give Sesame Dari Cob which she loved and she'd pouch till her eyes looked all bulgy.

Thanks for the help! I tend to give more 'homemade' toys to my pets and I've noticed they enjoy the cardboard tubes and box-dens more than the expensive (and often dangerous looking!) shop toys, and she seems to be no different right now. Made her a little fort out of a cardboard box and some tubes and she loves it haha! I'll try to get some Dari Cob too, hopefully she'll like it! πŸ˜€

ha ha, yeah, I did that towards the end, in the beginning I was inspired by german cages so I got all the cork/natural objects.. but they liked the egg boxes just as much!

Depressing thing is I now have a bedroom full of hamster cages (2xmini duna, gabber rex, duna multy and a homemade hamster cage) and all the accessories. There's a girl at university who has her syrian in a cage less suitable than a mini duna, so I was thinking of offering her one of the cages, but imo neither the gabber rex nor the multy are big enough for a syrian either. And I'm afraid of talking to people..

Makes me miss having a little hamster about the house!

I have loads! Erm...lets see...
2 cats, both girls called Angel and Ashleigh
2 male bearded dragons called Tango and Norbert (my snugglebuddies <3 )
2 female blue rats called Misty and Silver
1 very antisocial female leopard gacko named Blue
2 whites tree frogs called Zeberdee and Jade
And finally 3 corn snakes. The older two are named Ruby and Scooter and the baby is temporarily (though will likely end up as permanent) called Noodle

I had so many hamsters as kid and they were all pure evil!! That is when I discovered the joy of rats, fuzzy like hamsters but so much more intelligent and funny πŸ˜‰
I currently have a chinchilla called, erm, Chinny (I know) and an obnoxious selfish monster of a cat called Reo... anyone want her? She howls at 3am to either come in/go out and if you ignore her she scratches the doors to pieces!

Here are my "kids":  first one is Derby he's an American Cattle dog and the 2nd one is Dixie she is an Australian Cattle dog. (not to be confused with an Australian Sheppard)  Derby is as rough and tumble as they come but a lover also.  Dixie thinks she is a 10lb lap dog but she deffinately is NOT.  They're my babies and I love them.
