I lost my chocolate British Shorthair kitty last month. He was 2 years old. Rushed him to the emergency vet in the middle of the night, but his heart was just too big. I've had cats all my life, but I never thought I could be so deeply bonded with an animal until I dealt with the blow of losing him. His name was Marco Polo, and he was perfect.
I adopted a 3 month old tortie girl 2 weeks ago. She's classically feisty and weird and kitteny. Marco Polo's perfect opposite. Her name is Moo Q. Smudge. I let her choose her own name, like Marco did. I'll post a picture when I can, but she really has the most unusual face. Aside from the usual tortie markings, she has a solid black stripe down the middle of her face, and the left side of her face is almost solid orange tabby.
It's a good thing my lease states I can only have one cat in the apartment, because I would otherwise have a menagerie that would run me down. It was great fun looking at all the pictures in this thread and living vicariously!
Aww I love seeing everyone's animals π
We have 3 rescue Kitties! We live in a flat, and 3 years ago, on the industrial estate I was working on, we found that the only one of the feral cats that hadn't been spayed had a litter of kittens, so operation rescue kittie began, and we eventually managed to get 4 beautiful kittens, plus their mummy and have her done, and rehomed all the kittens. We got Mao;
Then, the following year we got Frida Kahlo. We wanted a friend for Mao as she was really shy and very nervy. We got Frida Kahlo through the Cats Protection League, and they had been trying to rehome her for over a year and noone wanted her. She was flea ridden and full of scabs, and had bald patches on the backs of her legs where she had been sat in her own mess (her then owners didn't seem to have any idea how to keep a cat, and kept her locked away in a room filled with junk - their dog was allowed the run of the house). We couldn't leave her where she was, so we took her home right away! She's beautiful and healthy now (but grumpy!)
And last November after a night out, my boyfriend & I were walking back home and found a tiny kitten sat outside one of the neighbouring houses, in the piddling rain. As she was so tiny (and she followed us home) we took her in for the night with the intention of finding her home the following day. Turned out noone had lost a kitten and she wasn't chipped, and to top it off was only about 5 months old, so we ended up with yet another cat! Meet Milly, aka Millington Biff.
Any Old Actress - how did your cat choose it's name?! π
Here's a more recent and much more grumpy picture of my catten π I had just woken her from her cat nap for this picture..
On the subject of kitties:
This is Magic
I lost her to Lymphoma in the week before Christmas. I'd had her since I was six and have a tattoo of her name on my foot.
I got to choose her from my friends litter of kittens, my brother chose a boy called Salem, he's still going, and desperately lonley now :'(
I still cant understand how much pain I feel when I think of her. Im in tears right now :'(
I also have Fudge and Bailey the Chocolate labradors, Mya and Butch the leopard Geckos and Olaf the anti-social russian hamster.

It was the one she answered to! We tried Everything from Miss Lydia Peebody to Pixie to Kizzy to Kameko, but she responded to Moo and Smudge.
Marco Polo got his name because he played it with me when I first brought him home. He would be hiding behind a pillow, and I would ask him where he was, and he would respond. I'd follow the meows until I found him. And to think he could have been Chococat, Sweetums, or Cat Chocula!
I haven't got photos of the fish or the newt, but here are the cats and the bearded dragon π
