to not dye my hair back to black. I've seriously thought about it loads this weekend, not told Sam because he'll murder me but it's just sooooooooooooooooo easy to maintain and I'm going to have my hands so full soon. The red isn't 'difficult' to maintain really but it just feels like a ball ache when I'm like oh I wanna do this this and this at the weekend but I need to fit in my hair at some point and I just know that I'm weak and will give in eventually
As someone who just went from black hair back to colours and already misses it, I also really need help fighting the temptation. So far, one of the things that have worked for me have been looking up colourful hair and seeing all the things I'd like to try (I know that you're obviously going to be very busy with your baby, but even so I'm sure you'll be able to find a spare moment here or there to do some dying). I've also kept reminding myself that black dye never stays black, it always fades to dark brown (that may just have been my hair and old damage, but given that yours has been bleached too it may be the same). Also, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think you had to cut off a lot of your hair some time ago due to damage from changing colours? It may help to think of it as being a waste to have given up your length to improve the health of your hair, only to end up a dark colour again, especially should you want to change it again in the future and risk having to cut it all off again.
Hope some of that helps π the fact that you are asking for help definitely says that you're not quite willing to deal with the permanency of black, so thats another good reason not to xD
Maybe this will help... Black over bleached hair is also high maintence!

Yep, it can quickly fade to murky browns/greens!
Maybe go an auburn, so it won't be too difficult to keep on top of and you can just throw a box dye on your roots as and when it's needed? It will just go a dullish brown when the red fades, but you can easily freshen it up when you have time.
I've never struggled to keep my hair black, even over bleached hair so that's interesting to hear that it may not be easy either! I did gently mention it to Sam yesterday and he wasn't as stroppy as I thought he'd get but he wasn't impressed either haha.
I think my main worry time-wise is that I'm not actually taking maternity leave, I'm going to be working from home and looking after baby, it may not be anywhere near as bad as I expect and red may be fine to keep up. Oh I don't know, aahh!! Will even black semis go funny?
Black semis will be hard too, they fade pretty quickly really. But then I would never suggest you to use a permanent on your hair now anyway. It's been through enough π
I'm weak π Sam bought me a box of black dye and a semi pot of directions ebony just in case that was what I'd prefer (he DOES listen haha) as a present from his trip away so I might have given in and done it last week. He said he was surprised that he didn't come home to me already having done it but I was still uhmm-ing and aahh-ing! So far it's had 2 washes and not faded as much as the red would have by this point so I'm going to play it by ear. Luckily I already had 2 sets of black extensions so I didn't need to replace them!
oooh i want to see!
You're super lucky the way you suit both blondes and blacks! It looks great π
aw thanks, I do think black is my favourite maybe just because for me it's less maintenance (or has been in the past we'll see how I go this time) and I ALWAYS think this when I go back to black which has been 2 maybe 3 times since I've started dying my hair. It is the longest I've kept my hair the same colour for any one given time but at least if I change my mind I know how to get rid of it safely π
