Aww man, I was gonna start stretching my septum today, but my friend's boyfriend forgot to bring the ring & taper he promised to give me 🙁

Maths exam tomorrow. My teacher just started a new topic today, it's gonna be in the exam, we have another topic that I don't get at all either and one where I kinda know how stuff works.
So basically, I'm gonna fail, I'm stressing out and thinking about just dropping out of school and becoming a cashier or something because I'm not good at anything but English and educational theory.

I'll moan for my poor little man today.  He's 10, nearly 11 but has special needs and is developmentally delayed.  My kids were all out walking the trails in the woods the other day... and since the night temps have dipped, the colours are changing.  One of the first things to change is poison ivy.  The plants are a brilliant crimson red, and so very attractive to a little boy who was making a leaf collection.  🙁  None of the kids knew he was collecting those leaves until he brought them up to the house.  He has poison ivy... EVERYWHERE.  His face, neck, arms, hands, torso and all over his legs (he was wearing shorts).  I'll be bathing him in calamine lotion for about 10 days.  Poor little chap.  He's miserable.

Thanks... he's being an incredibly good sport, but he's very uncomfortable just now.  🙁

Stephanie, I'm sorry you're not feeling the best.  ((hugs)) coming your way, too!

Naomi, I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time in math.  Could the school provide you with a tutor perhaps?  Don't drop out!

Stephanie, I'm sorry you're in so much pain 🙁 We're always here if you need to talk.

Modified, ouch, your poor lad!  Hope he feels better soon.

Intemp, I just studied with a friend and I guess I know enough to get at least a 4 in my exam (German grades go from 1-6, 1 being the best), so it should be okay - I'm definitely gonna get a tutor though!
The only good thing is that I'm so used to getting horrible math grades now that I'm not freaking out and don't need to take my meds for once.

I always found math really difficult!  My dad had to tutor me through it in school.  I flip numbers upside down when I'm not paying attention (so 2s become 5s and 6s look like 9s and vice versa, etc).  I didn't even know I was doing it until my dad started tutoring me.

I'm glad you studied a bit with a friend and are planning on getting a tutor.

I'm always sitting there like "What am I even doing?", and I keep mixing up the numbers (e.g. doing something where it says a=3, b=2, c=0 and d=9) and then I'll put a 9 for the c, leave out d and BAM - everything's wrong!
I still don't get why anyone would use letters in math :/

O: I could never imagine doing math in any other language, not even English! But it's super cool that you studied physics, I loved physics but I wasn't that good at it, so I don't have it anymore.

Kind of wish I could home school D, he's enjoying school when he's in the class room, but everyday when I pick him up, he's wet himself at somepoint because he's shy to ask to go to the toilet. He's also petrified of the playground at lunchtime, and he said he's unsure of where the bathroom is when its lunchtime and he ends up wetting himself 🙁 (their classroom toilet is next to the classroom but thats not near the playground) I just literally feel like I could cry, its awful having your four year old look so sad and scared and embarrassed :'(

Naomi... my hubby struggled with math in high school.  He had to take algebra twice as he failed it the first time.  The second time he barely passed.  He's a smart man... but he just did NOT get math that used letters.  Then, he went to trade school and there again, he had to take algebra for his trade.  The first time, he got a D (we grade A-D and then F is fail).  Because he got a D, we had to pay for it and then he had to take it again.  His professor was really great.  He told my husband, "don't feel bad.  I have A students and I have F students.  There are usually none in between.  You either get it, or you don't.  The ones who end up with a C [or middle grade] are the ones that are willing to spend time me and that I tutor one-on-one.  He did finally get a grade high enough to please his employer... but he's never had to use algebra for his job.  🙁  Now, he CAN do trigonometry... well.  But it's applied math... something he learned and used every day in his work.  It made all the difference.  I guess I just really want to say... don't be too hard on yourself.  If you can get a tutor, it will help you as they can talk you through those things you struggle with.  Also, if you have test anxiety... there are strategies to help with that, too.  (((hugs)))

Glitter.  🙁  I've been there with my son (the one who I posted about today that is DD and has poison ivy ATM).  When he was 4, he was in a special classroom but went to the commons for lunch.  The first time, they sent him without an aid and I was mortified!!!  He didn't know how to go through the lunch line... and he also didn't know where to find the toilets during recess.  He missed most of lunch, and wet himself pretty regularly for the first few weeks of school.  I made sure to send a change of clothes every day.  I also asked the teachers if they could maybe assign him a "buddy"... someone who he could get to know and didn't have to be afraid to talk to.  They did.  They introduced him to a little bit older student who helped him get his lunch and find the toilet from the playground.  It worked so well!  Gosh, I'm so sorry.  I remember those days!  I cried, a lot.  (((hugs)))

yeah thats exactly what its been like for us! Dylan is a very timid child and although we've not had him tested for anything it seems likely he's on the autism spectrum to some degree. Change petrifies him and he's so nervous of everything. He told us tonight that it's too loud and scary in the playground and he wishes he could come home at lunch 🙁

We're going to talk to the teacher tomorrow about what can be done at lunchtimes, he has a little friend, but I think he needs maybe someone older or a teacher/lunch lady around perhaps. He will only tell adults that he needs the toilet if he doesnt know where it is, and if there's no adult that he doesnt know, he'll panic and get nervous and try to hold it in and eventually wet himself :'( and he's such a sensitive little soul that I worry this is all setting him back with his confidence
