Films we've seen and what we thought!

Ooh I hadn't heard of that, just looked it up and I'll probably give it a watch I love Jason Bateman and my boyfriend has promised to put aside his irrational hatred of Ginnifer Goodwin as long as he can't see her face, so it's ideal!

I'm hoping to see Hail Caesar this weekend, been looking forward to it for a while.

Also, good work starting up a film thread, I love watching films but I can never think of anything to watch when it actually comes time to put something on.

Oooh, is she the bunny? I was trying to work out if I recognised the voice, but I didn't. I've not watched the fairy tale thing she's in, couldn't get into it. I did watch the mormon thing she was in though. Serious TV programme title fail there lol

Hail Caesar is brilliant! The Coen Brother madcap comedies are my favourites and this is right up there with the best, IMHO anyway lol

Having moved into Manchester, I can finally go to the cinema again without it being a long drawn out process. We're 5 mins from the nearest Odeon and I got myself a Limitless card! It's been something I've not been able to do since leaving Birmingham 9 years ago! There, I would be really naughty... though it could be worse. I lived there with only really knowing my brother and having no friends deliberately as I'd had a sort of mini breakdown a year or so before, nothing bad, just stress which lead to insomnia and it took me a while to get over it. Anyway... I would plan my day off around the cinema, I'd pick an early showing, then find something that started around the end of that, then another at the end of that and I'd buy two tickets, for the first and the last. The way the cinema was set up there, it was easy to tell what screen was showing what. I'd sneak into the middle film. I'd buy snacks and stuff though, which are terribly over priced... so I don't feel too bad about it. Kinda!

I won't be doing that again, I'm aiming to go to the cinema at least once a week now, but probably more 😀

I think I'm not surprised 😂 My mom is 54 and she told me yesterday she wants to watch Finding Dory and The Secret Life of Pets with me in a theatre as soon as they come out. 😂 My dad (same age) still enjoys watchin Tom and Jerry with me. I think now I know the reason I'm 20 but still enjoy animated movies a bit more than dramas or horrors 😂

I also watched zootropolis on a premiere in a theatre. I was the oldest girl in there 😂😂😂😂 But I wasn't embarrassed at all. I enjoyed it just as much as those kids 😂😂😂

I went and saw The Boy a few weeks ago. Some cheap scares, but overall, it was entertaining with a pretty good twist!

Desperate to see the Jungle Book.

Yes Janine, she's the bunny in it! I'm utterly obsessed with Once Upon a Time (hence the reason my boyfriend has an opinion on her at all haha!), I know it's trashy but I just find it lots of fun!
When we were kids there was a cinema near us that made it pretty easy to just sneak into other screens once you'd paid for one ticket, but there was never any real way of knowing what was on in them until you got in there so I've seen loads of random early 90's action films I never would have chosen to watch just by spending the whole day sneaking between screens! Awful naughty child that I was!
I watched Hail Caesar and really liked it (I wish there was more of Scarlett Johansson in it though, I liked her character), the dancing sailors bit was fantastic!
I also watched The Witch last night, which I'd really been looking forward to too, but I was slightly disappointed - I thought it was good, but not as good as I'd built up the expectation for. I'd had a lot of people telling me it was very thought provoking and worthy but mostly I just thought it was a fairly good spooky film with a bit of confirmation of what we already knew about how crappy life could be for a young lass in those times.
I've heard a lot of good reviews of the Jungle Book, I don't watch a lot of things with animals in coz they make me really sad for some reason, but I may have to make an exception for that!

I know literally nothing about The Jungle Book! I did see a trailer for Tarzan and assumed that must be it... then got really confused until I heard they're different films. That's all I know though lol

I prefer to watch scary films at home, so I'll save up The Boy until later.

I was surprised Scarlett Johansson wasn't in Hail Caesar more, but that's mostly because I always loved the kind of films that her kind of character would have been in!

I went to see Captain America and enjoyed it. I just switch my brain off when going to see superhero movies. I can't be bothered with picking them to pieces. It feels just the right length and I didn't get bored at all, even though some have complained about the government talky bits, they don't bother me.

I've been to see some more films! I was holding off on posting about them hoping someone else would post so I wasn't double posting and breaking the rules that I'm supposed to uphold, but no one has!! Oh well.

Batman v superman. I enjoyed it well enough. There were some really dumb bits that I just couldn't let go though. And much of it just didn't make sense. It all felt a bit shoehorned in and waaaaaay too soon in the franchise for a lot of the things that happened. It all ends up feeling too try hard to be marvel but failing oh so badly and falling into the same traps DC films nearly always seem to fall into (to many characters introduced in a poor way for example). I still did enjoy a lot of it though! Lol 🙂 there were some good scenes that kept me interested.

Florence Foster Jenkins. About a New York socialist that couldn't sing but ended up singing in Carnegie Hall! I thought it was fab! When I looked up the story after, it was really very different from reality, which disappointed me a bit because it made me wonder how much of it is fiction. Though, I feel like that after nearly every biography I see! I can see why they changed some things, but not all. Still. I really enjoyed it. I was also the youngest in the cinema screen by around 20 years lol

Hologram for the King. I knew very little about it before I went. Only that a talking heads song was used in part of it and it was set in Saudi. I like to do that sometimes as the lack of expectations generally helps with my enjoyment. Again, I really enoyed it. I thought it was really good, but I can see why some wouldn't like it. I've since seen the reviews too and they aren't favourable! Well, they aren't bad, but I dint agree with what some of them have said. So the moral is, don't read reviews before you see a film! I nearly always have a better reaction when I don't know anything about the film before hand 🙂

I've seen a couple of films recently.

Alice Through The Looking Glass: It was okay, the CGI was beautiful but the story lacked and didn't really have that feel of an Alice film. I also missed Tim Burtons direction.

X-Men Apocalypse: Amazing, loved every second of it. Probably my favourite X-Men movie so far. The opening scene was so good!

It's interesting to hear your thoughts on Alice. I couldn't get through watching the first one and I'm starting to find Jonny depp's character acting a bit painful to watch, so you've made my mind up for me that I won't bother 🙂

And X men. I hear so many bad things about it. But I've realised a lot of them are fans of the 90s tv show and it sounds like it messes with that timeline or something. I'm not, I didn't see it, or even know of it because I didn't have a tv through a lot of the 90s! I also heard it was quite schlocky which fills me with glee as I like over the top silliness lol I'm hoping to go and see it this week anyway.

I went to see Love and Friendship on the weekend. I really enjoyed it. Kate beckinsale is a really good actress for the part of Susan (which makes me sound like I've read that book, I haven't, so I can't really say I guess!). I didn't like Chloe Sevigny in it much though. Her facial expressions through most of it were a bit odd! Stephen fry being in it also stood out as odd, nit because he was bad in anyway. No, he played Stephen fry with olde worlde twist as he does so well. It was more that it seemed like he did the part to help out a friend or something, he was hardly in it at all! Other than that, I really enoyed it. I'm not that much of a fan of Jane Austin really, I think her books (though I know most of them though the films) are clever, but I find romance things quite annoying generally. I believe this was one that was never meant for general release and as such, it's a bit naughtier, so more fun. 🙂

I did actually find the Hatter hard to watch in the new movie... the whole thing just lacks.

As for X-Men, I think a lot of people who don't like it are the die-hard comic book fans who get really butthurt if you change the tiniest thing in the movie adaptations. And as you said, fans of the TV show. I grew up watching it but I can separate that from the movies. If you just watch the movies for what they are then they are really great.
