Does stress mess up your periods?

Very random but does anyone know about this or has anyone experienced it?

I have not been sexually active in the last few months. But my periods have been haywire for the last few months. Skipping a bunch and then spotting for a long time.

No drastic weight or diet change. I exercise regularly and have been for years. I always struggle with weight and unless I watch myself I fall at the high end of the acceptable weight range for my heist. I have thyroid issues but they are always monitored and controlled.

When I was a teen my periods were irregular but they had been regular for a while.

I do tend to stress out easily so the stressors in my life have been causing me anxiety. I do get anxious easily and I've had some nights where I wake up with my heart racing from stress.

Yes they can but go to your doctor to check it's not more serious

I have the same problem! But in my case it's because of thyroid problems + polichistic (?) ovarian syndrome + high prolactine (because of the thyroid) + awful stress and anxiety levels.

You should get checked by a gynechologist, specially blood tests and that kind of fuzz, so they can figure out ways to help you. In my case the solution is a bunch of pills, but hopefully you'll be more fortunate.

In the meantime try some yoga at night and hot bubble baths, they'll relax your body and mind (hopefully) and hot water increases the blood flow, which makes it more easy for you to get your period if it's meant to come soon!

Cheer up babe ♥

stress can definitely do it.  and honestly, worrying about where your period is and why it's not normal can cause *more* irregularity.  ...it sucks, but it's true!

i agree with everyone else, though-- i'd go see a doctor, just to make sure your thyroid levels aren't somehow out of whack or that something else isn't going on.

Yes I worried about my period once in my life and I didn't end up getting my period until the end of the month. Don't seem to have the problem anymore however. My period is usually heavy most of the time. Started swimming recently and I noticed a change in how I feel and how I don't suffer with cramps as much anymore. Hope you visit you're doctor and figure out the problem soon.

I have thyroid issues toi but always had issues with my period even though my thyroid levels are fine. I tried the pill and hated it, I now fear having any other types of contraception (besides condoms ofc) incase my body hates it and I stuck with a drug in my body for so many months. And the ones that are inserted into your body scare me and makes me shudder at the thought (coil, implant, eg) x

Stress + other issues pretty much secured my periods when I was a teenagers to never come. I can count how many periods I had from 13/14 to 20 on both hands.

I take my BC without stopping these days so I don't really get them now either for the last few years unless something happens (out of pills and forgot to buy, keto kicks me out of the pills into a fake period).
