My old Babyliss stopped working (actually, it nearly blew up--it made a soft whirring noise and started smoking!), so I nipped out to get a new hairdryer this week. The one I chose was the Vidal Sassoon Daily Hydration, for several reasons:
1) It claims to help hair retain moisture by "more ionization"
2) It came in purple, which was a nice touch
3) The handle folds for easy storage and packing
4) It had some "soft touch" finish, which kind of makes it look velvety
5) It was Β£20
Today was my first day using it since I bought it, and I have to say that I really liked it! It was the coldest cool-set hairdryer I've ever used; it was like a spring breeze was blowing my hair around. Because it was so cold, it did take about 20 minutes to get my hair around 95% dry (my hair is fine, but thickly distributed and around bra-strap length). My hair does feel a bit softer than it would with a normal hair dryer, but not as soft as it would if I'd air-dried it.
So, overall, a 9/10. I love the design and I really love how cold it is on the lowest heat setting and the cool switch on. Not sure I believe the whole ionization thing; I think it keeps moisture in the hair by not being searingly hot, but it's a nice little hairdryer. I'm hoping that the folding handle (which is brilliant! You can easily hang it out of the way and stuff it in a purse or a suitcase if you're on a short break) doesn't break the wires inside, but time will tell with that. It does have a two year guarantee, so if it lasts me two years for twenty quid I really won't complain.
The only thing is, the soft touch finish goes all the way down the handle, so if you are not a fan of things that feel sort of velvety then it might be a real bother for you. I don't mind it, though.
Ooooh Sounds great! I do need to new dryer, may put this on the Xmas list!
Sounds good, I've had my babyliss hairdryer for about 17 years now... it's still going strong but I don't think it's particularly good for my hair - it's cold setting is still warm!
I like the sound of this, not bad for Β£20 π Did you order it online?
No, I got it from Tesco π
Loving the fold on this!
I got a GHD Air a few months back and I love it, but i would totally consider this!
My mum bought me a fold away one when I was around 13 for a trip to france with School and she's still using it now 13 years later so I wouldn't say the folding-ness would be too much of an issue! If my hairdryer wasn't so new still I'd probably have gotten one of these
I may have to get one of these soon. Mine keeps zapping me, so although I only use it on cold to blast my fringe flat it may be time for a replacement (especially at that price).
Let us know how it goes with more useage!
I bought one of these yesterday (Β£15 from Argos, brilliant) and tried it out last night, and have to say I absolutely love it π I've never used a cold-setting hairdrier before this so it took a bit to get used to the cold air, but it felt really gentle on my hair and I didn't get the itching sensation (burning I imagine) that I used to get with heat. Like Intemp, I have thickly-distributed fine hair but mine is just a fraction past collar length, and I too found that it took a while to dry fully, although in all fairness that could easily have been down to me drying when my hair was still practically dripping as opposed to damp. My hair is kinked/unruly, especially at the ends, so when I let it air-dry it looks wild/untamed and sticks out all over the place, but with blow-drying it goes really smooth and sleek with only a slight curling up at the very ends. Long story short, I'm really happy with this hairdrier and would definitely recommend it π
