Scott Cornwall Colour Restore Cool Ash

I tried this product the other day and I am so far extremely unimpressed by it. So I shouldn't have hoped for it to do much, but it literally did nothing.

This product is a toner which can be used to reduce brassiness in medium blonde to brunette shades. I got excited when I read the box that said it was BLUE-toned to counteract brass/copper in medium shades (as opposed to purple which tones yellowy hair). Now understand my surprise when I squeeze this out of the tube and it is actually a light shade of purple. I should have known by then it wouldn't do much but I stil went ahead and tried it. I left it on for an hour under a shower cap (as opposed to the 25 minutes recommended) and saw no change.

So what might explain this is: my hair is virgin under a layer of henna, so it's clearly not very porous. I did do this after a colour remover which dries the hair and makes it more porous, hoping it would help pigment uptake. My hair is a copper/strawberry dark blonde at the minute.

Now I'd like to know why I stupidly spent £12 on this when I could make my own toner using BU shades and some condish.... The answer is.....

I am gullible and I trusted the name Scott Cornwall. (the box did say you could use it on virgin/unprocessed hair)

I will probably give this a go again if I decide to bleach bath, as it might help make my hair more porous. If it doesn't work then I'll make my own toner with a semi purple/blue and conditioner.

Hi Theodora

I bought some of this a couple of weeks ago, and I wasn't very impressed.  However I looked at the reviews on the Boots website and there were quite a few people who said that it took until the third go to work, and then was quite good.  To be honest, I couldn't be bothered to do it 3 times, so I chucked Adore Honey Brown over my light coppery bits and it has taken quite well.  There is still a bit of warmth showing through, but the overall effect is quite nice.  Now I just need to find a way to get my roots to match as they are unprocessed and don't seem to want to hold anything!
