oVertone Hair Conditioners

I think it is a very expensive way to sell colour, very clever marketing. Putting a really good quality dye like Special Effects in your regular conditioner will work out at a fraction of the cost and do the same job.

I definitely agree with wicked pixie here, just mix some of a normal semi dye in to cheap conditioner and you're good to go. This stuff is overpriced, and made for the hipster market who are dying their hair bright because it's in fashion now, but don't know much about semi dyes.

Yeah, I agree as well. Also, change your hair colour as most of us do a lot and you're stuck with a bottle of conditioner you can't use! No point when you can make it yourself.

I like them. The spearmint scent is refreshing and they deposit color really well. Although I've only tried their extreme formulas. You could mix your own, but I haven't liked the results when I mix my own color-depositing conditioner. It's the lazy mermaid's best friend.

I've used extreme red, purple, and am waiting for the purple to fade a bit more before I try to blue. Eventually I may buy the other colors to move my way around the color wheel as I wish.

Another note on making your own: It is definitely cheaper. It works well for a lot of people and you can make a TON of it depending on how pigmented you want your color to be. 8oz (largest size Overtone carries) doesn't last long for some.

To sum it all up, I absolutely adore Overtone conditioners, but if I'm strapped for cash I'll make my own color-depositing conditioner.

Desperate to keep my green hair, I ordered two sample sizes of a green and a teal. They smell great, but did little to help my hair color stay put. I probably needed to order the deep conditioner, but since I mix two colors, that's $60 I'm not willing to spend. Should've known they were too good to be true

Also want to add to this question and apologize if this is bumping... but something in their FAQ confused me

Specifically looking at the first two. Aren't most dyes people use to get "fantasy" colors conditioning in themselves? After much browsing on this thread I thought it would not be damaging to create this concoction of dye and conditioner.

Maybe true, to an extent. I would guess their claims as exaggerated as usual. I mean, if it's true that direct dyes work like that (and it likely is, I don't actually know for sure right now) then it does make you wonder how effective the colour can be in their product.

At this point I'd still rather spend less money and deal with the slight damage I might be getting from normal direct dyes  than buy this product.
