I'm reaching out to see if anybody has used John Frieda Go Blonder conditioner. I saw it on sale at my local Target and if it truly works the way its suppose to then I would consider it just as something to keep my blonde vibrant between colorings. I don't want to use the spray because I saw the bad review on it already but im wondering if the conditioner might be okay since your rinsing it out anyways. I might go ahead and purchase it just to try it out anyways, but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I've not tried the John Frieda one as I've not been blonde for a few years but I've never had a good experience with gradual lightening products, they always seem to go brassy and be quite harsh feeling. It'd prob make your roots brassy (as it is a very weak lightening product it'd take any darker bits towards ginger or gold!) and strip any toner or tint you had in the blonde!
Yea that was kinda what i was thinking, but i fought my instinct and bought it anyways. Ive only used it a couple times cause i only wash my hair 3 times a week, but so far it has done absolutely nothing. I think its more of a gimmick than anything. I'm going back to my tea tree oil conditioner! 😀
I find it likely, that out of the whole range, the conditioner probably has the least possible affect. Though, I think that's probably a good thing, for the reasons Lauralei says!
I still have this bottle sitting in my shower mostly because I just keep forgetting to throw it out, but anyways, I decided I would experiment a little since I'm chopping most of my hair off (I have a pixie already, but its growing out) at the end of the month anyways, so I figured if it did dry my hair or do damage it isn't really going to matter in about 3 weeks. So I washed my hair with my normal shimmer lights shampoo, and to be fair I usually leave this in about 5-7 minutes every time I use it just so that it sinks in, then I used the go blonder conditioner and I used a very hefty amount for my little bit of hair, and I left it on for about 5 minutes (however long it took me to shave my legs, lol) and when I dried my hair I did notice it appeared lighter. I did not have brassy roots which is surprising because I have a ton of red in my natural hair. The ends were noticeably lighter and I didn't experience a lot of dryness. Now I know if I continue to use it, my hair will most likely dry out and it will cause damage, but like I said im not worried about that at the moment. I am in NO way endorsing this product I just wanted to let you all know what came out of my little experiment *puzz*
** just as a disclaimer, do not take this as a recommendation, I only did this because I am shaving my hair off in a few weeks so I figured it was the best time to try something I would normally not try.
It's good that you got the lightening effect without it turning your roots brassy, well done! Now is definitely the time to experiment if you're getting a big cut soon and your hair is short anyway!
I wouldn't have thought there was a huge amount of point in using the shimmer lights shampoo before that conditioner though as I would think that the lightening stuff in the conditioner would strip out the purple toner deposited by the shampoo so you may just be wasting shampoo! Then again if you wash with purple shampoo and only apply the conditioner through your lengths and ends that would probably stop your roots going brassy!
yea it wasn't really intentional to use the purple shampoo its just all I had in the shower, lol. I really just wanted to use this conditioner because I hate wasting money, im super cheap, lol.
I'm the same, I hate wasting stuff that cost money!
yea, im stubborn that way, even if I don't like something I will use it until its gone just because I hate wasting money. I once used a whole bottle of lotion that actually made me nauseous (the smell was awful with my body chemistry) but I used it anyways cause I spent way too much on it! I couldn't even give it to a friend cause it didn't smell good on anybody, lol
