Jerome Russell's Punky Colours

Here is my review of Jerome Russell's line of semi-permanent hair dye, Punky Colours ( http://www.punky.com/ )

I live in a fairly small city in Canada, so all I've been able to find in town are Manic Panic and Punky Colour dyes (I have to order my current dye, an SFX colour, from a nearby big city). I'd heard some different opinions about MP, but mostly good things about PC, so I decided to give it a try. I only tried two colours (Midnight Blue and Atlantic Blue), so here's my experience just based on those two:

PROS:
-Less expensive than MP (at least where I live) for the same sized container.
-Smells like grapes, my favourite semi-permanent dye out of those I've smelled.
-Dye fade is comparable to SFX (at least on my hair), which means it lasts quite a while.
-Colours were vibrant.

CONS:
-The amount of dye staining on skin is horrible. Hard to get off skin once it fades, and continues to stain for a long time after the initial dye - has stained the back of my neck/forehead 2 weeks later, and can't wear a white shirt for longer than that in case it rains or I sweat.
-Dye doesn't seem to go as far as SFX when using the same amount, seems to be thinner in consistency than SFX so maybe that is why?
-This is a personal nitpick, but I prefer my blues to fade to purple rather than green, and as far as I know all PC blues fade green. It's a pretty green (Midnight Blue faded to a bright turquoise before looking washed out), but still wasn't what I was looking for.

So all in all I would recommend trying it if you think the pros outweigh the cons. I tried SFX and found the colours were as good as Punky without the cons, but I have friends who have tried SFX and still swear by PC. Guess it all comes down to how the dye reacts to your particular hair type/condition. Would love to hear feedback from others who have tried this brand and what they think πŸ™‚

Oh yes, forgot to add..PC, like SFX, is vegan - a huge pro in my books!

The small tubs of punky semi-perm colours in my experience are the exact same as Directions. I've always been told that Punky Colours is just another name for Directions overseas.

PC containers cost $9 (plus tax) where I live, whereas MP containers cost 13-15 dollars depending on if you're getting regular or Amplified. I'm sure it depends on where you live and what the retailer decides to charge, I've seen pots of PC go from 8-12 dollars online depending on the site..

And thanks for pointing out that it's also known as Directions, KittyLost, I've seen a lot of talk about that brand on these boards and was wondering what it was like πŸ™‚
