Bwahaha! I've never used colour b4 and always wondered what the smell was like, I've heard it's bad. This phrase just summed it all up for me, thanks! LOL!

I've used it before but it never smelled THIS bad. I don't know if they have changed the formula or something because it actually smells like a decaying corpse now.

Does this work on naturally black/near-black brown hair?

It's designed to remove dye, not your natural colour.  Only bleach can remove natural colour.

Love this stuff! Got black to ginger, and recovered a blonde streak from underneath 3 layers of orange!

It's hit and miss on veggie dyes, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't because it's not made for veggie dyes. You could always try it but her hair has to be very faded beforehand and it's an expensive gamble. She'd probably be better off fading as much as possible then bleachbathing etc

Just wanted to add my own experience with this product's horrendous smell. After I applied the buffer twice, I washed my hair with a nice smelling shampoo (Alberto Balsam) to try and get rid of as much of the smell as possible. I also conditioned it with a nice smelling conditioner (also Alberto Balsam). When I dried it the stench was barely noticeable and my hair wasn't dry either. It felt very good in fact! πŸ™‚

I have just used this with good results. My hair is light ash brown, and two applications have taken the top section to a very slightly coppery brown and the end sections dark brown, from years of dying with Schwarzkopf XXL black. I am only an occasional user of megahot straighteners etc., so I think this is why I've got a good result. My hair is in an angled bob, from shaved at the back to chind length at the front.

It does stink, but I'm not really noticing any smelliness in my hair today (the morning after an evening use). I used the buffer twice and then some American Cream conditioner by Lush. My hair is quite soft this morning; not as soft as it usually is after a wash but certainly not terribly bad. It was in very good condition before I used the COlour B4 though.

I used colour b4 last week, the smell is really not that bad, at bit weird but it's really bareable....
I used the whole bottle, and wrappred my hair in cling film.
From very black waist long hair, it worked to a dark brown on the top half of my hair, thinking about doing a second session today.
It did left my hair a bit dry after aftern the buffer, but i directly applied a deep conditonner and left it on for 1 hour, now my hair is healthy as it was before. No split ends or nothing.

It didn't do wonders, but i was expecting this result (don't expect too much after years of sami black dye), i'm thinking about starting from the lenght and work to the roots for the next time.

The only thing i would have to say about this, is that for long hair it's barely just enough product, 1 or 2 tablesppons more would have been perfect, as using 2 packs would have been too much...

Thanks very much for this review.  Im just sitting here at the mo with my head wrapped in clingfilm.  It does stink, although I dont think its toooo terrible, but my bf can smell it over the other side of the room haha.

I used XXL Mystic Violet and XXL Ultra Violet over the the past 3 years or so, so I am really hoping it will lift the colour out.

Am I right in saying I will have to wait a day before using XXL Absolut Platinum to bleach it before using the Atomic Pink?

Yes and no.  You have to make sure all of the residues are out before bleaching it, so give it a good clarifying wash and deep condition after the thirty minutes of rinsing.

Good luck!

well its done and dry.  πŸ™‚  I am pleasantly surprised at how well its lifted the purple out.  My head still smells of rotting eggs tho.

Did anyone have much of the buffer left over after they used it?  I seem to have loads left, but it lathered up really well.

I've gone a pale gingery colour, thats not too bad tbh.  I dont feel that i have to rush tomorrow to bleach it, so I can rest my hair a little.

Me too i had loads of buffer left. I think it's destined to short hair person who might need to use it a second time as they won't use the whole bottle of stripping product, in case they need a second application.
