Hii,

I've noticed a few of you seem to spend a lot on coconut oil. Ive tried the Superdrug stuff and I really didn't like it, and it was way too expensive! If you have a Tesco supermarket (not express, the huuuuge Tescos) near you, they do a 500ml tub for under Β£2 πŸ™‚ It's not organic but just pure coconut oil, from the Asian foods section.

I paid Β£6 for the exact same tub on eBay before I noticed it in Tesco! Duhhhh

I got mine, probably the same stuff, from a hair shop that specialised in afro-Caribbean hair. There was so much in that shop! I'll have to go back when I have more time and have a proper browse.

My mum gets hers from a massive hair store near us, we have a lot of them around! She gets a 500ml tub for about Β£2.

I get organic virgin coconut oil from my local health food shop for Β£3.49. I use it for so many things, hair, skin, healthy cooking oil, I even give it to my dogs as a supplement and natural wormer.

Just a note that I never found it in tesco, but my local asian supermarket stocks it, Β£2 something.. much better than holland and barratt in terms of cost, but it did seem slightly more solid than h&b's (although they're both pure coconut oil)

My chinese supermarket sells 3 litres of white vinegar for Β£2.25 too ^.^ (for vinegar rinses)

Holland and barret are doing their 1 penny sale, buy on product and get another for a penny. Basically buy one get one free. You could get 2 massive tubs for Β£7 πŸ™‚

My Tesco doesn't have it either - no Asian food section (I think we have Polish and Afro-Caribbean instead). To Holland and Barrett!

Has anyone noticed any difference between the cheaper stuff in tesco and more expensive ones? I saw the one in sainsburys for Β£6.99 (500ml) and I wouldnt mind paying that if I knew it was better than the cheap tesco one, but if there is no difference.... im off to tesco πŸ™‚

I'm no expert on this, so please don't take my word for this. I'm just going based on what I've read on the huge thread on coconut oil (and I read it entirely, lol).

The *more* expensive, the *less* likely it is to be what you need - sometimes, more expensive coconut oil comes with a bunch of things packed inside it. It then becomes marketed for certain things, like hair.

Regardless of how it's all expensive and effective-looking especially for hair - You *don't* want those ones!

I don't think anyone had good experiences with the Superdrug stuff, and it was because it wasn't pure coconut oil.
At first glace, it does just look like a tub of plain olde coconut oil, but to my knowledge it also had a bunch of other stuff that both heightened it's use for cosmetic purposes (perhaps it includes additional moisturizers for better effectiveness on skin, or something like that).

You want the stuff so pure it's good enough to actually EAT, and these are usually way cheaper (because they're JUST coconut oil - nothing else), and are found in food sections. πŸ™‚

If you're confused, just check the ingredients. You don't want it to be anything other than just 100% coconut oil.

Well, some of the more expensive ones are fine. Like the holland and Barrett ones. I don't have a choice as, in my area there's no tescos and no Asian shops! The ones that were Asian all seem to be polish now. So I end up ordering online from holland and Barrett, the postage is actually a little less than it would be to get to an area that sells it.

But in tescos, Asda, etc, look in the food aisle not the hair aisle.
