Mine was like this but I've been doing it for just under a month and its got better! I now last longer none greasy than what it did with the normal shampoo & conditioner wash!

ah really? i might start it again, if it gets better after a few weeks, it might be worth putting up with greasy hair for abit lol
The only thing I can think of is the conditioner was too rich/ thick. I use a cheap silicone free ( that's the important bit) conditioner .... Usuallys tescos own coconut one, squidge a good egg cup amount into a jug and about the same of water, mix it up to a froth and then wash my hair with the frothy mix, rinse well and hey presto clean and happy co washed hair
Edit: I get over 7 days greasy free hair and I have reallllllllly greasy skin usually
I think I might try your method and see if my hair likes it better, I've been using Theodor's (if thats how you spell it) method, conditioner on dry hair then gradually wet it more and more π I can get about 4ish days out of it (before co washing I had to wash my hair every day)
I'll try yours and yes I have really greasy skin too
Yeah i might try that way to. I have been using the Garnier fructus conditioner
The garnier fructis repair and shine is a bit too rich for co-washing which is prob why your hair felt heavy and greasy. You could try diluting it down with water to make a froth but I would maybe try swapping to a cheaper thinner cone free conditioner to cowash with and use the fructis stuff as a regular conditioner on the ends of your hair x
Ahh hang on, you just said end of your hair... meaning the rich condition shouldn't be at the roots?
This is maybe where I'm going wrong, I've been doing my normal co wash with tesco conditioner and then using the repair and shine but right to the roots.
ah nobody has said that before, lots of people on here say the garnier one is the best to use, i will try watering it down first and if its still making it greasy i will change conditioner π thank you!
You use a cheap conditioner (most people use Tesco Coconut conditioner) to wash your hair with massaging and everything then use a rich conditioner (garnier) to give their hair that extra bit but some don't use a rich after.
This is why Babe_Hawx mentioned watering it down so it wont be as rich for your hair for the first wash π
No worries! Glad to help,
There's no 'set way' or rule about how to do it, I just did my own thing and probably by chance it works fab but everybody's hair is different so what works for one may not work for another but could just be a matter of tweaking the method to suit your hair.
A few of my tips:
Save an old shampoo bottle, wash out completely so no residue, once you have made your watered down conditioner mix in a jug, transfer to the shampoo bottle, shake bottle to foam it up & use the shampoo bottle to direct the liquid onto your hair/ scalp just where you need it.
When applying your richer conditioner, apply just to the lengths of your hair from the bottom of your ear lobes down ( for long hair) or just the tips if it's short, don't be heavy handed with the rich stuff as it can make your hair gunky, sticky and heavy,Leave on for a few mins & rinse well
Try using an old tshirt or even better piece of satin/silk to turban your hair after washing, the friction off towels can rough up your hair making it frizzy
Hope this helps x
AHH thankyou, thats great advice i will start doing some of your tips and let you know how i get on!
We're in the US, and so we've had a bit of time trying to locate cone-free conditioners for CO washing. I thought I'd add what we're using in case there are any others in the US looking for brands that are cone-free. π In the US, Garnier Fructis all have amodimethicone in them. π
We use TRESemmΓ© Naturals and Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut for CO washing. My daughter and I both have really fine, thin hair. She does not use a wash out conditioner after CO washing or it leaves her hair feeling heavy; I do use a rinse out - currently that is Pureology for dry hair that is tinted with my SFX dye. We do both use Joico K-Pak reconstructor and Intense Hydrator once per week after using a sulphate-free shampoo (also called low-poo on the CG forums).
I can't seem to get away from some cones in my styling products, but they are very few. I clarify once a month before I refresh my SFX dye, so I figure that takes care of any buildup and hairspray. π
Hope this helps!
Thanks for adding this, I'm located in the UK, should maybe change my profile as I've just noticed it doesn't state it over there <<<<<
I haven't yet tried the K-Pak but hopefully will be able to get that in September (when I get paid).
I also haven't yet tried the whole conditioner and dye mix although its rare that I only have one colour in my hair, currently I'm rainbow so that would be a nightmare!
I don't use styling products often, about once every 2 months? and that's just hairspray that I don't *think* has any cones in but I do clarify my hair before dying as I didn't know how us CO washers are supposed to do it but I figured that would be best π
I just started doing CO washes about a week and a half ago. I am not sure if you can purchase the Deva Curl products in stores in Europe, but I am pretty sure you can purchase them online. I use the Deva Curl "No Poo" (They also have "Lo Poo") and the "On Condition" conditioning treatment. My hair is naturally very curly and dry, so I only wash it a few times a week, but so far my hair has not been oily or greasy and I noticed that it does not dry as limp as it did before using the other shampoos/conditioners. The roots are much more voluminous and my curls are more defined as well. The scent is a little strong to bear at first, (It's a minty almost menthol type scent,) but the strength of the scent fades away after a day or so.
If the scent bugs you, there is also a brand called "One "N Only Argan Oil" that has a paraben and sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. I haven't tried this yet, but once I get a better look at the ingredient list, I may check it out. I didn't see anything about cones on the site preview.
