It is a little thick and rich for co washing
So for co washing i need a more liquid conditioner?
Yeah ideally, USUALLY family store basic conditioners are a good place to start checking ingredients. I'm sure if you took a pic of the ingredient list and posted it we could let you know if it's any good but here's some helpful info off curly girl:
Silicones that are not soluble in water and build up on the hair: Cetearyl methicone, Cetyl Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Stearyl Dimethicone, Amodimethicone (and) Trideceth-12 (and) Cetrimonium Chloride, and Trimethylsilylamodimethicone. Note: Trideceth-12 and Cetrimonium Chloride are only considered a silcone when both are combined with Amodimethicone.
Silicones that are slightly soluble in water and will build up on most types of curly hair: Amodimethicone, Behenoxy Dimethicone, and Stearoxy Dimethicone.
Silicones that are soluble in water and safe to use (they are not listed with PEG in front of them): Dimethicone Copolyol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Hydroxypropyl Polysiloxane, and Lauryl methicone copolyol
I'm not sure if this is the correct way to co wash but here's my method:
Wet hair (if u r doing this in the bath make sure u use a jug of fresh tap water not water that has bubble bath in it)
Take a jug add an egg cup amount of water to jug
Squidge into the jug/water about the same amount of the conditioner ( needs to be a silicone free one,i use tescos coconut)
Use your hand to mix it up until it froths
Either put in an old (clean & rinsed out) cosmetic bottle or if your feeling accurate and quick you can just slowly pour from the jug to your head
Start at the very top of your head, apply 2/3 rds of the mix and massage in, just rub as if you were shampooing, then the remaining mix onto the lengths, don't over distress hair though ( if you wouldn't like your face being rubbed into 40 thousand rough tree trunks, try not to rub your delicate hair into each other, massage it and scrunch it instead)
Use the jug to rinse out well,
Use a regular sized blob of conditioner and condition lengths as per usual, leave for 5 mins if your hair is damaged
Wow very very useful!!! Thanks a million! π
I've recently decided to go CO but when I went to asda they didn't have any own brand that didn't have Poly's in, there wasn't even a space on the shelf for it.
Maybe discontinued?
Instead I got Alberto balsam for my CO is this OK?
Yeah I noticed asda had stopped their own brand coconut essentials one ( that's why I went for tescos)
I'm not 100% sure if it is, if it's not on the list above I pretty much avoid it, just had a look on another forum and they were talking about Alberto balsam:
Re: Silicone-free conditioners in the UK
Oh, cyclopentasilaxane probably. That's the worst one. Not good for curly/kinky hair at all, especially if you're not using shampoo often.
They may of changed the 'recipe' though
Yerp, cyclopentasilaxane is right here :/
Damn I bought 10 bottles as i was totally certain they where safe
What will it do to my hair if I do use them?
It will just make your hair shiny, but it is not soluble in water so it will build up on your hair and then you will need to use a cleansing shampoo... Sorry!
Here's a list you may want to print out so you know what to be looking for in ingredients:

Ok, so just googled the silicone in Alberto balsam: omg, in studies it caused tumours in more than one group of animals and it's been on the news in America because of it being associated with certain cancers, I'm not setting a wolf amongst sheep and trying to frighten anyone, I had no idea I'm just shocked at what we put on our bodies, I'm thinking of emigrating to the jungle and washing with wild boar poo at this rate!
I'd either return the product to store or eBay it, wilkinsons do a coconut conditioner that's ok to use, have a look on my other list earlier on on this thread I'm sure there will be something local to you xx
Thank You, What a shame, I have to buy in bulk when I get anything like this as I can't just nip to shops so easy. I'm mostly in asda as its closer but looks like I'll have to try again lol
I will get it right!!
OMG, That's extremely shocking, theres me thinking they are really good and they are very far from it!
Thank you for the list, I will take it out with me and ensure I get the correct ones this time.
It's so frustrating I know, I spent Β£21 on this one product that I thought would be great and it was all wrong! I went to my supermarket and got the right one for Β£1! Grrrr
Asda sell garnier fructis sleek n shine which is fine to use, it is a bit thick though but I guess you could just add more water to make it thinner, Its on offer at Β£1 at the mo and is in a bright lime green bottle. I will give it a go next time I wash my hair but it will be a week now, ( since stopping shampoo my hair just doesn't get greasy so as gross as it sounds I only wash it once a week)
Good luck, I'm sure you will find the perfect one for u soon x
kinda related, i finally found the alberto balsamn orangeish hair stuff & im pretty sure the 4th ingredient is cone =( so wont be using that now!

Well I have like 20+ bottles for my rich condition so would I be OK just watering this down for now? I'm doing a rainbow at the weekend so I'm hoping to have a routine going before then. I think I'll be able to go to tesco tomorrow is there anything that you recommend? Obv their family conditioner is a must!
The intensive repair one? Yeah I found it gunked my hair up! We need a shop that sells co wash friendly stuff with big clear labels for us!
I don't know why that reply was posted above as it was posted somewhere else ! Grrrr silly phone! Anyways, tescos
They do a fab cone friendly conditioner , it's their own bog standard one in a big bottle called tesco smooth conditioner coconut
