Best High Street Hair Dye Brand

Hi All,

I just wondered which in your opinion, is the best 'high street' style hair dye brand? This is particularly for dyes available in the U.K. Looking mainly at how accurate the colour description and picture is in relation to the colour it actually gives, whether it leaves any red tones (when not intended), level of coverage etc etc.
Would love to get your opinions on this as I've tried many over the years and have never really found one that's made me go, 'this ones amazing, it's the one!'.

;D

What type of dye do you mean, like a permanent dye? And what colours, some brands are great for certain types of colour but less so for others!

Yeah, permanent dye. To be honest, I'm just looking for light brown! I've tried so many over the years that leave red or orange tones in my hair, particularly at the roots. I haven't dyed in quite a long time so would like to pick the right one this time!
Plus I'd be interested to hear what brands people think are good in general!  πŸ™‚

It could be that they aren't lightening your hair sufficiently to give it an ash tone. Hair lightens through stages from brown to ginger to golden to yellow to blonde and different people will have different amounts of ginger and yellow undertones in their hair as it lightens so it could be that yours has a lot of ginger tones and the dye is only lightening it enough for these to come through.

I'm not an expert really as my hair is naturally ash and I dye it darker and warmer but I tend to use Wella Koleston (which is a salon dye rather than a box dye) on my roots and then Adore direct dye to top it up.

I tried many box dyes in my younger years and by far the best one I used was Nutrisse.  My hair felt so good afterwards and the results were always what I was hoping for.  Granted I was using blonde dyes at the time and not light browns, but I still highly recommend them.
