Hello! I've only just joined, but I've been dyeing my hair for years and years - I believe my natural hair colour is a dark ashy blonde, but I'm not sure. I've tended to go either blonde or red, both work because I have pale skin and green eyes.
The darkest so far was dark brown: my hair was very short at the time, a no.4 all over, and it was just not a good combination.

I got married five years ago, at the time I had chin-length hair and varying shades of blonde between honey and baby-blonde: my hairdresser banned me from having so much as a trim, because I wanted curls and she needed all the length she could get, and I've just kind of been growing it out since. And going steadily blonder. I tend to bleach as pale as it'll go and leave it at that.

My birthday's just before Halloween, so it's always a big party. This year, we went to White Mischief; my husband and I both dressed as Mad Scientists. I wanted a curly blue wig but couldn't find one, so decided to dye my hair instead... so here I am, having ransacked the forum for tips on how to do it!
I picked up what I could find in the shop, which was Stargazer, in Coral Blue and Royal Blue. I needed both tubes in the end, so went for lighter at the front and on the roots and darker on the ends. When I get a proper daylight photo, I'll add it here.
I'm kind of thinking I might want to have brighter blue all over, but I also like hair that's different shades rather than a flat tone all over. Does anyone have any thoughts on what would work?
i love the long pale blonde, wedding hair and your current blue =)
i think atlantic blue to midnight blue would look fabulous

I actually like the short dark brown on you, as well as your blondes and blues!
I particularly love your hair and makeup in the 2007 pic--very Marilyn!
And I agree with Pippa, if you're staying blue a reverse ombre down to an inky blue would look gorgeous.

Thanks!
Yes, the Coral I think is too light, the blonde is showing through at the roots, and I expect it won't fade nicely. So a proper bright blue at the roots would work well. Midnight looks gorgeous too - I've got quite a thing for navy.

Hmm, interesting! It's tiny pic, sorry, but even so I think you can see my scalp... my hair is fine but plentiful, so long seems to work better. Much though I still pretend I'm a short-hair person really π

Thanks! I do the retro / vintage thing (I used to swing-dance), hence all the pics of curls.
"Reverse ombre", what a great name! It was by accident this time round, I thought I'd go Coral all over and darken if I needed to, but apparently one bottle isn't enough to cover everything.

I love the curls, they really suit you. I'm so jealous of people who can curl their hair; mine will never, ever hold. Sometimes the ends of my layers flick out if I've rested on them while they're damp, but other than that ... nothing.
I usually need a minimum of three Directions containers on my hair (which is about as long as yours) and Stargazer I think has even less volume, so you'd probably need four of them.
Ah now the curls. My hair is totally poker straight naturally - honestly, if I air-dry it, it looks like I've straightened it! One photo above from this year shows that. However, I learnt how to do pincurls, and they seem to work ok - a mix of using setting lotion, setting when damp, and leaving them in until they're bone dry. Best to sleep on them, I find, or leave in all day (and sometimes I still get surprises, like the back curls aren't dry!) They still drop out on the longer parts after a while, and if I go somewhere warm or damp, they drop too, of course.
The other thing to bear in mind is that I had it cut in a 40s layer cut, specifically so that curls would look good - a blunt cut is never as good to show them off. The shorter layers are definitely easier to curl, too.
So my experience is that even extremely reluctant hair can be curled, albeit with some effort. I'm pretty lazy about it, though, and mostly just wear my hair in plaits!
Looks like I was lucky to get all that done with 2x Stargazer bottles, then (I even have a tiny amount left for conditioning rinses). I shall definitely buy more bottles next time, running out is NOT a good idea!
The blue looks lovely and the curls are great too. My hair is stick straight too so I know how much of a pain they can be.
loving the blue!!
I love the blue fabby π
my hair is far too thick and heavy to hold curls, they literally drop straught out
I adore the blonde on you, but I absolutely can't deny that I would love to see more of that blue! π
I curl my hair all over pretty often nowadays. I use the rag method usually, it works far, far, far better than curlers in my opinion. π
Cool time line - I love the blue! π
