Is there much difference between the white and blue powders you mix with peroxide? One friend told me the blue colour helps cancel out orange/warm tones (which would probably help with achieving lighter colours and sounds the best to have!) while another friend (who has been bleaching her hair for YEARS, all colours of the rainbow) said the type of powder she used made little to no change to her hair.
I'm a little peeved because today I checked my local hairdresser supply shop for blue powder (they stocked it months ago, same price as the white) but they no longer stock the same brand in blue, only white.
Which powder would you guys recommend? I'm trying to lighten the ends of my hair so I can dip dye it a nice purple and they're at the kind of light ginger stage at the moment but in great condition so I might give it another bleach before I dye. (did a strand test & it's a little too dark for my liking)

There are some bleach & tone products out there (Schwarzkopf BlondMe Bleach & Tone) which are said to do both in one step - but the common-or-garden powder bleaches don't... It's often said that there is a difference between blue and white bleaches, but I really doubt it - so far I've never seen any difference regarding the yellowness, and usually during the processing time on the head blue bleach usually becomes white, too.
So I suppose that the blue pigments are killed by the bleach and don't have any real effect. 🙂

I've used both and I have to say there was no real difference. The theory is that blue bleach will cancel out the yellow tones, but it never seems to work that way.
It's also harder to monitor how your hair is changing under blue bleach. I think the safest route is white bleach so you can monitor the colour change followed by toning to remove the brassiness. Toner's fairly cheap and only takes about five minutes to work.
