Which toner do people recommend for white hair? For the last stubburn bits...

You could try dyeing it a darker lilac colour and letting it fade out to white.

Thanks! Thats an idea, though whether I will suit lilac...  😀

I think I will do a few more sesions with the directions toner, I think it will just take time.  Hopefully when the roots come through it will be easier as they will be virgin hair and not pre-coloured like the ends.

I have used Wella T18, Wella T14, Wella T10, MP Virgin Snow, three different purple shampoos, and homemade purple semi toner.

I would have to say the purple semi toner works best as long as you use a purple with good staying power. Even though your hair won't actually be purple, all toners will fade, and you don't want it to fade out in 2 days like I had mine do with MP Ultraviolet. I've also heard Pravana Silver works pretty well too, but I've never tried that one myself.

If you haven't tried a purple shampoo/conditioner I would try one, or you can make your own with a violet semi heavily diluted in conditioner. That way you can control how weak or strong you need it to be

If I use white lady mixed with conditioner and no peroxide will that tone better than regular shimmer lights conditioner ?

Probably not, I've never tried mixing an oxidative dye with conditioner to tone at all, I'm not sure it would do anything at all.

My absolute favorite dye to use to tone is Pravana Violet. It is a semi direct dye, so no developer at all, and just add a drop to a bowl of conditioner. I would clarify your hair, rinse in hot water, don't condition or apply any products or anything, let it dry completely, then apply the semi toner to those last stubborn bits.

I have used purple shampoo and a semi toner. The purple shampoo I prefer to use but find I will get some lilac/purple strands if I leave it longer than 4-5 minutes, it's by Fudge. As for toner, I have used Directions White toner and think it did an ok job but much prefer my purple shampoo - cheaper too if you have long hair because you don't need much and once a week was enough for me. I had to use over 2 pots of the white toner to make sure it was all distributed/covered evenly. I used all of the 2 pots but it wasn't enough so made up some extra mixing Directions Violet with conditioner.
