Which toner do people recommend for white hair? For the last stubburn bits...

Hi,  I decided as I was starting to go that way naturally (!) I might as well have a complete change and go white.  I've been most kinds of red-brown / brown / blonde over the years but never this light.  After a few months of toying around with ashy blonde colours, I finally bleached my hair twice over the period of two weeks, then toned it.  I'm down to the last few pale gold bits but they are being stubborn.  I have tried Wella 8/81... I went grey in places!  I did the second bleach which lightened things up further but still my hair resists.  I have found the Revlon colour ball 1002 works pretty well but still there are areas of slight gold. especially on the ends of my hair.
I should say I do have very short hair so the ends will be cut off in a couple of months anyway, but meantime what toner do most of you use to get that white (not silver) hair?  My plan is to get to white then swipe in a colour for a bit of fun.
Is the Directions white a good bet?
Thanks in advance for any tips from you who have managed the feat!  πŸ™‚

Never tried my own but everyone swears by wella t-18 white lady / lightest ash blonde, or manic panic virgin snow

Actually, here we don't like toners like wella t-18 because you have to use peroxide with it. Not good on freshly bleached hair.

I've only ever used purple shampoos for toning.

I always used to use purple shampoo  or Roux Fancifull rinses are good too.

If you haven't tried a purple shampoo/conditioner I would try one, or you can make your own with a violet semi heavily diluted in conditioner. That way you can control how weak or strong you need it to be

If I use white lady mixed with conditioner and no peroxide will that tone better than regular shimmer lights conditioner ?

I don't think you should be using it like that.

Oh, it wasn't the one you mix with peroxide, only the use straight from bottle semi-permanent toner 8/81 not the T18.  I don't want to add extra bleach again!

I have used purple shampoos but no real luck.  I suspect if I keep using my Revlon colourball it will eventually work as my hair does seem lighter after each use.  Or I might try the manic panic.  I will give it a week or two and see what happens.  I fancied a kind of rose gold tone under the white for the fringe eventually, so that would hide the worst of the remaining yellow anyway I guess.  At least as it grows out it will get easier to keep it since I am about 70% light grey/white anyway πŸ˜€

Thanks for all the suggestions!

It wasn't you I was saying that to you really, just mentioning it as it's not something we recommend here πŸ™‚

Do you leave the shampoos on for a little while?

Sorry, that wasn't aimed at you either! That was meant for smithyT as she's said  they don't work for her.

You gotta love crossed posts!! πŸ˜€

Yes, I have tried leaving the shampoos for a bit.  Tried Directions toner today, nothing.  wel, not much anyway, apart from leaving a little tint of violet behind in the bits that are white.  Or that are more silver now!!  Im beginning to think about giving up.  My hair is a mix of silver/white and very very pale gold now.  Im sure its pale enough the toner should work, but it is being stubborn and I really hate the light gold sheen.  I'm the wrong skin tone for gold colours, I need ash/white or reds really!

Hmm...trying to resist giving up and going for a colour instead!

I like the redken silvercharge shampoo for men. Its very thick and quite pigmented but it doesnt go lilac. It just tones.

Thanks guys πŸ™‚

Oddly enough it seems lighter today without me doing anything else to it!  Went out last night to a steampunk meet and got positive comments so I guess I will keep at it.  Maybe it's a gradual thing with my mop, just use the toner a few more times and I might be there.  All else fails and I might try a bleach bath in a couple of weeks or so but for now I will give it a chance to recover.
