When to use protein filler on porous hair? Before or after dye.

So, first I just want to say that I love these forums and they've helped me tons over the last couple of years. That being said I've searched and searched for the answer to my question and can't seem to find it, so if this is a repeat, I'm sorry.
So, long story short, even though I followed all the rules, I seem to have over-processed my hair. Last summer I started working towards white hair, never fully got there and ended up giving up because I fell pregnant and wanted to grow out my pixie just a bit. So, when my re-growth started getting longish I went back to a auburn/brown red color using adore dyes as I knew my hair was too far gone for any more chemical processing. Problem is I have been needing to re-dye every other week. My hair really doesn't feel that damaged but it apparently is having a porosity problem. I'm doing all the right things with my hair, only shampooing (with an all natural, sulfate-free shampoo) every 7-10 days in cool water and using CO w/cool water on the off days, I've done protein treatments on my hair, coconut oil, the works and my color still fades ridiculously fast. Right now, my hair is back to a golden blonde color ( except for a few random bits that must not be as damaged lol). So the only thing I haven't tried yet is a protein filler. I have about a half a bottle of red protein filler from Sally's, the only problem is I can't figure out when to use it. Like what is the timing for it? Usually I clarify and then dye my hair. When would I use the protein filler? Would I clarify, use the protein filler, than dye? Or would that affect how the dye takes to the hair? I know the protein filler that I have has sulfates in it, so I'm afraid if I used it after I dye it would strip some of the color out. Ugh, I'm so confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never used protien filler, but since it's meant to restore hair to a more normal state and allow it to hold colour better I would assume it's to be used before dying.

Also is the colour fading as quickly on your bleached hair as the regrowth?

Yes. I expect it to not stick to the regrowth and am fine with that but after just 2 washes ( spread out every 7-10 days) my bleach-damaged hair goes from the dark auburn color, that I died it to, to a patchy sandy blonde.  -r-

Marthakins is right; you use it before dyeing to equalize the porosity in your hair so you get a more even result when you dye. It gives more places for the dye to "stick". In general I'd suggest using a clear filler. So first use clarifying shampoo, then filler, then dye. You also might want to consider a shampoo and/ or conditioner with protein. Just don't overdo it or your hair will become dry and brittle.

Awesome, thanks ladies! My hair has actually gone to a rather nice looking blonde color so I think I will actually just leave it alone for a bit until I am ready to go dark again. I have the Generic brand of the Joico K-Pak that I have been using every other week or so in the meantime and hopefully will be able to get the dye to stick when I do it again. Thanks!
