Hello... My first post is quick to ask advice from all of you lovelies. I started out with virgin, dark brown hair. (picture in upper left) wanted hair like (lower left) and I got from my professional the picture on the right. What should I do next? Yes, my nose is red from crying... Go back to brown? Brown with darker highlights? Keep bleaching??
Thanks!
Don't panic and go back to brown, it isn't a disaster.
Dark hair goes through several stages to get to blonde; red, orange and yellow. So the ginger you are seeing is just because your hair hasn't been lightened all the way to palest yellow. This is a good thing, it is much better for your hair to lighten it gradually.
It looks like an overall colour in the pic, which is confusing as the pic of the colour you want is light blonde streaks on a brown base.
You will need to bleach the areas you want blonde further. Ideally you should wait a month before bleaching again. Your hair is light enough already to add an ash brown to create the darker areas. the pic looks like grown out highlights but you can add colour at the roots to create a balayage effect.
I just have to say, I think what you have now is gorgeous. Really, really nice! π Give it some time, like Wicked Pixie says, don't panic and dye it brown again. It will probably grow on you enough to let you live with it until you can bleach again.
Thanks girls!
And yes, Wicked Pixie, she is no where near what we talked about for my hair, I did not want all over color... I just wanted some bright natural looking blonde in there.
Do you either of you think it will look odd to get it all at a ash dark blonde, then add natural back in? Is that the easiest? Am I light enough for any color of blonde? Thanks for the help!!
Also just because I feel like venting, she quoted me at a price then when I was paying, she doubled it because I had "difficult hair". Not pleased overall. That's just the drama though. π
I personally wouldn't have paid if i wasn't happy with the colour. Did she offer you a follow up appointment to get you closer to what you wanted? If it were me I would definitely go back and explain to the salon manager how unhappy you are with the service they provided. They should refund at least some of the money or offer to correct your colour.
Sometimes hair doesn't lighten as well as expected, but that is still no excuse for lightening the whole head when streaks/partial colour is what you asked for. I wonder if she ran out of time and left you half done. Did she discuss the processes she would be using with you?
What exactly don't you like about your current colour? I am guessing it is the warmth, because you wanted a very cool toned blonde? To get a cool toned blonde you need to lighten to the level above the one required, so if you add ash to what you have now it will be a light neutral brown/dark blonde. It is very difficult to completely remove the golden tones without going a lot lighter. You could try toning with a blue/violet shade, that will show you the lightest and least warm colour you can achieve on that base.
If you went to a good colourist they would be able to lift the streaks you wanted and add the natural colour back in at the same time. This will be tricky to do yourself, and lightening all the hair just to add dark brown over certain parts seems like a lot of unnecessary damage. Plus the brown will fade very quickly over a bleached base.
Do you know exactly what was done to your hair? Was it just bleach, or did she add permanent colour or toner? How many processes did she do? If you can find out exactly what was done it will help to work out what to do next.
