Using foils

So I was wondering, wat is the purpose of using foil when bleaching hair. Does it result in the hair being a lighter colour than it would after a normal bleaching? Does it give it a more silver look? Does it process quicker due to the insulation? Or is it just a way to keep bleached sections from touching unbleached sections?

I think it's just a way to keep the bleached sections away from unbleached.

yup it's to section the hair, and to get the dye or bleach on the exact hair that you want to color.
The hair can be bleached more "aggresive" when using foils with 30 or 40 vol developer since you don't have to worry about the scalp.
But it's less damaging to use 20 vol and gives more control.

Cheers guys, it's just because my friend wants her hair done a lilac colour, but it's quite a dark brown just now. So just trying to figure out how to get the lightest possible colour after the first bleaching, was wondering if foils would help that but it seems not. Ah well, I hope her scalp is as robust as mine so I can do an all over 40 vol! Getting her up soon for a skin test first of all anyway.
