So this hair remover is rubbish. My hair is pretty much Black/browny still with ginger roots. I've gone and brought jerome russell powder bleach and 30 & 40 vol peroxide. I also got nutrisse truly blonde maximum lightee. I'm not bothered about not . I know some people will tell me to leave it but I work with the public and I can't have hair like this. I'm back in Monday at work. Which am I best to use? help please 🙁 I wish I brought a bleach instead of this remover now
With black dye it can often take several applications of colour remover. Bleaching the black dye out is going to give you orange hair, so it is up to you how to proceed. What is your goal? to go from dyed black to light blonde takes months, i am afraid it just can't be done in a weekend no matter what products you use.
I don't want it blonde. Id like a dark blonde light brown really. Just so unimpressed as I've bleached black before and its gone ginger but this remover did nothing
Which is better to use?

Depends how you define better. i have very long hair so keeping damage to a minimum is a priority for me. I have bleached out black dye in the past, it created some very bright orange tones and you could clearly see the banding where the layers of dye had been applied. It took a lot of repeated bleachings to get it to a dark gold colour (which luckily was light enough for the colour i wanted.) It took a long time to even out the colour and it was pretty damaging.
The next time I went from black to blonde i did it gradually. I used colour removers (Colour B4) and bleached in stages, using low vol bleach baths to get to light blonde. It was much more even, there was no banding or bright orange stages, and the final result is much lighter. My hair isn't in perfect condition (it is bleached and waist length) but it is OK.
So using the colour removers prevented the orange and the banding and allowed me to get a lighter result with less damage.
I would use at least 2 more colour removers, leave them on for at least an hour, cover and blast with heat from a hair dryer. Remember that colour removers are not damaging, but bleach is. It got the colour out at the roots, in theory it could get you to that shade all over. I have usually seen the best results from the second application.
If you have been dyeing it black for a long time you may have to accept that it will be stained. You can get it lighter, but often cuticle staining is permanent.
Its so annoying as a teenager id bleach Black out and I know it wouldgo ginger. But for nothing to happen I was so annoyed plus what a waste. My hair is very fine and the length in my photo. I'm gna try the garnier one tomorrow see how it goes. But very disappointed wish I stuck to bleach
Colour removers do work, even on built up black. Did you apply it correctly? Did you cover it and keep it warm? I think a second application would get a lot of the black out.
If you want to bleach, you should really wait a week after a colour remover so the colour doesn't re-oxisise. You seem quite determined to bleach it tomorrow though no matter what, so good luck with that.
I agree with all of Wicked Pixie's advice, and if you do bleach this weekend, you run the risk of the black reoxidising, which means, in putting peroxide (which is in the bleach mixture) right back on your hair after using the colour remover, the black colour may show up again. It sounds weird but it happens! There are many conversations about reoxidising on this forum.
I had to use colour removers multiple times at various stages of colour correction to get the right results, and though it's difficult to be patient, it's worth doing it right and being careful. A temporary fix for the coming week would be to get a hold of a semi and tone it to a more tolerable colour, let it rest a bit, and try another colour remover in due course.
Good luck whatever you decide to do, but you will probably thank yourself by moving a bit more slowly with the process - not only will you get a better colour result, but you will minimise damage and dryness.
Good god - do not use 40 vol bleach on your hair! 😮
People have had horrible damage even using that stuff diluted in a bleach bath - it's caustic!!
To get from black to dark blonde without ruining your hair is going to take time, it's not going to happen in a weekend, have a look at the pinned threads in the bleaching section - bleaching horror stories http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=6447.0 how to do a bleach bath http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=995.0 and colour b4 (which is a brand of colour remover) http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=3462.0
If I were you I'd get two more boxes of colour remover (Jo Baz is the cheapest - you can get it for £4.99 in home bargains or savers) after three goes it's done all it's going to do. Then wait a week or a few washes before you start bleach bathing it. It's going to be a long process if you want to eventually end up with HEALTHY blonde hair.
Ideally if you plan to make such a change of colour you have to give yourself time. Consider what you have to attend in the days ahead (work/nights out) and how you plan to deal with the dodgy inbetween looks before you find your ideal colour.
What you have done so far was the right thing to do. Bleaching your hair would be worse- those ginger roots? Way worse.
If you are serious about this, then check out the 8 wash nice and easy to blend in those roots for now, and give your hair another go at the removers.
You can't expect an overnight result for such a colour change. I was black two years ago and before then I always hit the bleach and never got to my intended colour because I always wrecked it and was impatient. When I actually listened to the forum , sucked up the dodgy results and took my time, it worked, I'm pink, and I never dreamed it would happen
The longer you've had black dye in your hair and the more applications of it you've done, the more buildup you have. It can take multiple applications of color removers to remove it. I've seen it take up to 5 of them in extreme cases where they've been using permanent black box dyes for 15-20 years, full head applications every time. You usually don't see much of a change with the first application of it when you're trying to remove black, unless it's only been dyed black once and it was recent. It doesn't mean that it didn't work, you could just have buildup, it may not have been applied quickly enough (you should try to get it on in no longer than 15 minutes), make sure you put a cap over it, sometimes you need to warm it up periodically with a dryer so it stays warm all the time, etc.
If you want to go for bleach already, I would definitely strand test it first to make sure you don't get a yellow>orange>red>black gradient, and to make sure that what progress you have made doesn't go to waste and the color reoxidize and just go black again. Honestly though, I would use another color remover or two and do the things mentioned above if you haven't already to get the most out of it.
Please please please do NOT put 40 vol on your hair!!!
I know trying to remove colour is stressful but you will not acheive black to blonde in one go. I think you should give colour removers another try, make sure you put a cap on it and the wrap a towel around your head to hold the heat in to give the remover the best chance possible. Do your colour remover another couple of times and then give your hair at least a week to rest, believe me, in the long run you'll be greatful you played the long game rather than storming in with bleach because you will have healthy hair (which is what we all want)
p.s. post a photo so i can see how it goes??
Interested to know what the OP decided to do and what the results were.
