So I had a disastrous bleaching experience at home. Bleached and toned like I typically do when I decide to go blonde, but a lot of my hair turned to mush, fell out, and I had to go in to get it professionally cut and corrected.
They told me to come back in a couple weeks to work on getting the rest of the orange out.
So, could I just do a toner at home? Walking around with this color on my head is driving me crazy
Just don't use anything with peroxide. What colour are you aiming for?
Iβm trying to get to a silver blonde...Iβm just worried about melting my hair off again. But my logic is, if the salons willing to touch it again, it should be ok for me to tone it? With a low developer?
That is not sound logic. A salon doesnt care about the integrity of your hair, only about your money. Most salons will do anything to your hair and very few will actually tell you that they wont do it because of damage. If your hair is already "melting off", do not use peroxide products at all; even if it is low volume. Damage can take up to a month to show up so if it is already bad, it can get much much worse if you tone it again.
Any suggestions on what to do about this color then? I understand I have to give my hair a break, but when itβs ready to be corrected?
Yeah, I agree, that's definitely not sound logic. There are a lot of salons that are great, but if they're willing to use peroxide on your hair if it's already "mush" and breaking badly, then I'm afraid this probably isn't one of them.
I think you'll have to settle for not silver blonde for now. If there's orange it will not turn a silvery blonde without peroxide and that's definitely not a good thing right now. You will probably have to settle for a mid ash blonde. Can you post a photo so we can help advise what colour you need to use to tone?
Sure, Iβll give ya a couple....
The hair that was mush, itβs all cut out now...I lost a decent amount of length, especially around my face...I know it had to go but since I gotta deal with this unflattering length, Iβd like to at least have a complimentary color
I hope my last message didnt sound rude. I didnt mean it to sound like that.
Your hair is still quite coppery and it will be difficult to get it light enough for silvery blonde hair as you need a very pale base. We usualy only recomend bleach/peroxide once every 4 weeks or so. That means it would take a couple of months to get you light enough for what you want but it's the only safe way. For now, if you want to tone down the coppery color, you can use direct dyes diluted with conditioner to tone down the orange. a blue toner is usually used for copper tones and purple for yellow.
No worries, I didnβt take it negatively...so a direct dye or a blue toner, mixed with conditoner? Instead of developer?
Sorry, I have so many questions. If it was you, what exactly would you do?
Honestly, I donβt even care about silver at this point, I just want to be darker blonde
I appreciate all the help π
direct dye mixed with conditioner to dilute it into a toner. you may be able to find a premade toner but they usually require an activator/peroxide.
Personally i would try to put up with the color as long as possible while doing reconstructor and moisturising treatments every few days. After a few weeks i would cover my hair in coconut oil for a few hours and do a bleach with 20 vol. once you get a good base, i would then use a direct dye from the adore natural range to color it
Ok, thank you!
