Blue into brown roots turns quite odd green by the way.
Personally I never found a way to style my hair into flat straight without blowing atleast cold air at it, and my hair doesnt style with heat that well anyway so I have no clue. I think there was a thread about heatless styles somewhere though πŸ™‚

You could put a dark purple on the roots, it would cover the brown and merge nicely into the blue.

I'll search for that thread, and thank god you told me about the blue turning green! I would have ended up rather unhappy with that.

Awesome idea about the dark purple, i'll do that, I love a graduation of colours and I hate the idea of giving up on it.

Hope this is an appropriate thread to share a couple things that seem to have saved my over-processed tresses in the past, which I don't think have been mentioned in this thread yet:

Motions CPR (Critical Protection & Repair) Treatment Conditioner, apparently made with African herbs/berries and tea tree oil - after shampooing, I pack masses of it into my hair, cover with a cap, and leave it on for about 5 minutes.  A month or so of using this product and staying clear of any drying products/processes, my hair is usually emerges in great condition.  Been using this for years.

Modified 26/10/2013 to add:  Sadly, I recently analysed the ingredients, and this product contains silicone.  I'm so disappointed!

At-home Keratin/Brazilian Protein Treatments - been doing this for the past 3+ years, and not only has my hair grown past a length it never had in the past but I must say that the keratin strengthened my hair well enough to be able to hold up against my recent desire to use lightener upon lightener.  No doubt, damage has been done, but I think the hair has come through really rather well, considering, as I haven't had to cut the length as much as I may have expected!

Added 17 October 2013:

Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair works instantly, as it claims to do!  It's not the cheapest, about Β£20 per bottle, but you need such a small amount, and it really nourishes dry and overprocessed hair.

Hi Ladies and Gentleman

Below I have listed the treatments I've tried which have successfully restored a lot of condition back into my hair and have proven to be reliable must haves for me.

(From my personal experience, moisture treatments work a lot better if the hair has been pre-treated with a rich protein mask beforehand).

Protein:

Redken - Extreme Strength Builder PLUS (Protein/Ceramides/18-MEA).
Aubrey Organics - GPB.
Avlon - KeraCare Super Reconstructor (Intensive stuff).

Moisture:

Elucence - Moisture Balancing Conditioner (Holy Grail and versatile).
Aubrey Organics - White Camellia Conditioner.

All the products are silicone free and the moisturising treatments in particular are very rich in good quality conditioning agents and emollients (mostly oils)

Hope this helps.

I've used coconut oil before bleaching; and I wonder if it has contributed to the patchy result.

It's possible, but normally only because it's made application difficult because it's hardened in a cold room. Otherwise it's most likely patchy application.
