Scalp in Distress!

So after stripping the red from my hair a hair dresser bleached it. At first it was fine, but after a while the bleach made me really sleepy and woozy, she washed it off and the colour was just what I wanted and it felt soft and lovely and nothing seemed wrong.

On the way home I felt some hard bits of hair in my head and assumed she has left some bleach in by accident. I got home and washed my hair again, the hard patched came back, a lot worse. I felt my scalp and I have big blisters/scabs in the areas the hair is going hard, I think perhaps they are weeping and this is whats doing it to the hair.

I tried ignoring it but I woke up this morning and I have three huge hardened patches of hair my scalp feels worse. Does any one have any advice? I don't know if it's worth going to the doctors for or if theres any home remedies I can use to stop them weeping and help them heal?

Thanks everyone.

It sounds like you've got serious chemical burns on your scalp--second and third degree.  (Second degree is when it blisters, third degree is when the blisters burst).

Go to a doctor as soon as possible; they can usually perscribe an ointment that stays in the fridge and will help reduce scarring and reduce the chance of infection.  Burns this serious need medical intervention.

Do not pick at the hard hair on your scalp or wash it off--it's matting from the weeping skin.  Your doctor will be able to tell you how to best take care of it.

Take pictures and bring it in to your salon, because this is serious negligence.

I'm sorry I don't know anything about chemical burns, but if I were you I would be screaming down that salon - that is so bad!

Agreed with all of the above. Find out what volume bleach they used because it was obviously too harsh.

Did you wash your hair before they bleached? That strips out the natural oils which protects the scalp. If you washed your hair first then it's not entirely their fault but if they washed your hair first or if they used the wrong bleach then they need to pay for the damage they've done. Go to a doc asap and tell him you're thinking of getting compensation from the hairdresser so he can make a formal report if he needs to.

Just out of interest I've always wondered if those "no win no fee" solicitors would take a case like this because someone seriously needs to get it through to hairdressers that they can't just slap 40vol bleach on clients heads without worrying about the consequences. It might be worth mentioning that to the salon when you go there. Perhaps they will offer you something "out of court" so to speak.

That's what happened to me! o.o
It was horrible, and I didn't even go to the doctor/complain at the salon.

I hope you feel better soon! <3

yes definately agree with everyone go straight to the doctors as ignoring it can lead to infection and infection spreads very fast, you dont want infection going to your brain and it CAN happen (people with infected nose piercings etc have had it happen before)

A young lady on ANTM once had horrible bleach burns and it resulted in a nasty skin condition. It was treatable and certainly didn't affect her career but her face! OMG the poor thing looked awful for over a week. I hope you're feeling better now Saint.

I dont know anything about burns, but do know from my daughters scalp infection how quickly it spreads all over the head and the bits that went weepy knotted her hair so bad she had to have huge chunks cut out of her hair
