Reverse ombre with natural blonde roots (current color is dark auburn)

Hi, I wonder if anyone can give me some advice?

My natural hair color is blonde, a very light ash blonde with red undertones. And my current color is a dark'ish auburn, which I love but I'm growing tired of having to color my roots every 6weeks (my hair grows really slow). I am considering going reverse ombre to grow out my natural blonde plus I like the ombre look. Now I'm faced with a dilemma... I live in Mozambique and cannot speak the local languages, Portuguese being the most widely spoken language, so I do not trust the hairdressers here even those who can speak English because I fear they do not know how to work with "Caucasian" hair. I want to attempt to color my hair ombre by myself. I know a little bit about hair color and have had experience with my own hair and I know that because of my very red pigments my hair will turn brassy and orange when I bleach it. I cant bleach it too much (to get past the brassy orange awkward stage) or it will damage and/or break off. So I need to do it in stages over a period of 2 or 3 weeks using a bleach bath (I think that's what its called) but I prefer to mix the bleach and peroxide with conditioner and do a deep treatment. I've done it before to go from pitch black to red and then to auburn so I'm almost halfway there. But I have no idea how to get the reverse ombre effect without pouring more color onto my hair... Any advice please?

So what exactly are you bleaching? If it's to remove the auburn, start off with colour removers. Bleach is a last resort and frequently doesn't work for removing colour. Even if you've done it before.

Hi Janineb,

Well I haven't found a color remover in stores (we usually shop in South Africa, we live close to the border). And I've been using the bleach baths to lighten my hair a few shades. It was black at first I lightened it then used a medium brown dye and it came out dark brown, I went red a couple months ago and then decided on auburn but it’s still too dark to grow out my blonde hair. My hair is so blonde it looks like I'm going bald when the regrowth starts to show.... I can’t handle it so I need to lighten the top layers of my hair and a section of my roots. I want to get the reverse ombre effect, but haven't read or heard of anyone that had to remove the color (starting at the roots) to get the reverse ombre I know I will have to use a lighter blonde shade of dye on the top layers and mid sections. I'm just not sure how I'm going to start removing the color from the roots without damaging the ends. I'll see if I can find a good color remover online instead of using the bleach. Thanks  πŸ˜€

Janineb is right; it is best to start with a color remover. You will have a much better result and it will save your hair from unnecessary damage. Make sure you are purchasing a color remover and not a color stripper. Products to look for include Colour B4, Scott Cornwall Decolour remover (don't confuse it with the stripper), JoBaz, and ProVoke.

I think you might just have to live with it for a while. I know it's not pleasant, but it's better than trying bleaching and ending up with handfuls breaking off! Definitely try online for colour removers. If you can't find them, I would suggest scarves around your hairline like Piscine has in her avatar above! Wearing your hair in a ponytail will help a bit as well. I would just play with methods of disguising your roots.
