Removing XXL black dye

So I had a dream the other night where I removed the black from my hair and went lilac, since then I've been seriously considering the idea.

I've read how difficult it it's remove XXL dyes because of the silicones, especially the black shades. I also straighten on occasion with ghd's and I've been redyeing the black every 6-8 weeks for the past 9 months so there's lots of build up to.

I got some Jo Baz as it didn't do a bad job on my nuclear red, more just to see if it'd shift it. Got the max strength and gave it a go tonight as my hair needed a wash and the oh was out with some friends. Left it for an hour and adding heat every 15 minutes.

I wasn't expecting anything but it's actually shifted a lot of it, it's a mid chocolatey brown at the moment although it's more gingerish towards the roots where there is less build up. I'm really impressed, I bought 2 boxes just in case.

Is it worth putting another one on in a week or so? If I remember rightly, I had bleached it and it was green envy before I dyed it all black so another strip may remove some more?

I know it'll be a long process, I'm very luck that my hair lifts incredibly quickly so I bleach bathing will lighten it up massively but I'd rather hold out as long as possible on the bleach if I can as my hair is half way down my back and I want to keep as much of it as I can  πŸ™‚

It can be done, as long as you don't have a lot of staining. My hair was dyed black a couple of years ago, including XXL blacks, and a combination of colour removers and gradual bleaching got it to the pale blonde it is now. (My hair is pretty long so my ends are the bits that had the black on) I did the lightening in stages as I was growing my hair so didn't want to lose any length.

I totally agree, it can be done as long as you don't have staining. Usually when you do have staining it will be on the midlengths to the ends. Really utilize the color removers like you have been, try one or two more, then you can work on bleach bathing it. I did the exact same thing, you can see it in my timeline in the show off section, but the ends of my hair were terribly stained. If you do have staining though, there isn't any way to remove it, but there are ways to work around it. You could do a pastel to mid tone/dark gradient until it grows out more if you don't want to cut off the staining initially.
