Removing Pink To Go White

New goal: I'm going to try to go from pink to as white as possible!! πŸ˜€  ...I know that actual, pure white isn't realistic, but I'm gonna try to get as close as I can! I read the White Hair Tutorial that Gothicle posted in the FAQ, it was really thorough and and well-put-together! I wanted to run a few things past this forum first, before I get started. Thank you in advance for sticking with me through this long-winded explanation!

I have been using Ion Color Brilliance Brights fashion color in Magenta for 6 years, and I haven't refreshed the pink or bleached my roots in 6 months. (I usually wait around 4 months anyway to bleach roots to minimize over-fry!) But this pink is really hanging on really strong still!!

My hair is also black at the crown and a 2inch border of black around the hairline. I am keeping the black, there's no stripping that out. Not that I want to, I'm going for a high-contrast Narcissa Malfoy/ Cruella Devil look.  8)

I'm going to try One N Only Colorfix to remove the pink. I watched a video of a gal who Colorfix'ed a turquoise at home with great success. It seems to be a minimally damaging and inexpensive gamble that I am willing to take.

My question to you, the high-priestess-ninja-gurus of this forum, is this: after I use Colorfix should I wait (days/week?) before getting my bleach on? I want to try to achieve my goal of almost-white in one day if I can. This is because it takes me over an hour to separate the pink from the black. It sucks and I don't want to have to do it again until it's time to re-do the grow-out.

My hair is super tough and can take a lot of chemical abuse. 12 years ago I went to a salon and tried to have the dreaded Special Effects Blue Velvet removed in an attempt to go red. They used a color remover, a bleach bath, and a full-on bleach (maybe not in that order, hard to remember). That evil blue just wouldn't GTFO! But my hair was still in really decent shape after all that madness!! It was amazing!

Should I get after it with Colorfix AND bleach in 1 day? I think my hair can handle it....  Or should I wait??

Here's my shopping list, am I missing anything?
-Colorfix
-Lightener (bleach powder)
-20 Vol. Creme Developer
-Red Gold Remover
-Wella Color Charm "White Lady" T18 Toner
-A protein reconstructing treatment
-Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo

Is Shimmer Lights Conditioner necessary too? Or can I just use the same conditioner I've been using?

Thanks for any advice!! <3

I included pictures, but I think I did this wrong (?)... I will try to add photos another way.

Honestly, 6 years of pink is probably never going to fully go. It's as hard, maybe even harder than black to get out. Especially after using it so long. At least getting black out it'll go a different colour, orange. But pink will normally just go a lighter pink. I've really struggled in the past to remove pink that I put on once and highly diluted in the first place.

Also, when removing semi dyes, I'll never buy everything in one go because the list can change with each removal. Colour removers work better when the dye is quite faded already. You could try the bleach powder/oil/shampoo method which you can find a tutorial for on this forum. This can often remove most of the dye in one shot. But be warned, if you're unlucky like me, it will turn your hair straw yellow which I then have to use a bleach bath to remove (I won't use this method anymore, but it works wonders for many). First I suggest washing with dandruff shampoo for a few washes to get the colour a bit lighter.

Take each stage as it comes and don't rush it. I don't care how tough your hair is, trying to get white blonde is hard after having bright colours and you're very likely to fry it.

Thanks, Janineb  *thx*!! I wish my photos I tried to include worked (help?). I have been using a clarifying shampoo for a couple of weeks to try to get more color to wash out. I will try the dandruff shampoo for a few washes too. But I have a feeling that after 6 months it must be as faded as it's going to get! You said that colour removers work when the dye is quite faded already; does that mean faded all the way to blond, or just faded as much as it can? I'd really like to try the color remover but if you think my hair is too stained I will forego the Colorfix.

I'll check out the bleach powder/oil/ shampoo tutorial and give it a shot. Thanks for the recommendation!

My main concern is figuring out the amount time I should wait in between methods if the powder/oil/shampoo (or Colorfix if I decide to go that way) is unsuccessful. How long do you think  I should wait? And if either method IS successful, how long should I wait to bleach my incredibly long grow-out?

I understand how difficult white is to achieve and I'm willing to go the distance! I just want to eliminate as much error as possible!  πŸ˜‰

.........(I started a Tumblr to show my photos of my hair.... my username is voodoocherry .... I wish I could figure out how to just put my photos on this reply!)

It's not that I'm saying it's just difficult, if might be impossible. its very, very likely impossible. Pink is well known to be as bad as black, red and some blues. You just have to be ready to find a point that you're going to have to say, ok it's not going to happen. You might get lucky, but it's a slim chance.

You need to wait about a week after using a colour remover before doing anything with peroxide (this is assuming colorfix is the non-damaging remover, I can never remember if it is colorfix or coloropps, I'm in the UK where we don't have those brands and have a bad memory!). That also applies to the roots, so leave it for a week after doing one as you'll likely overlap the bleach on to the already coloured part and could end up with a line of reoxidise X pink back! Leave at least a week between doing either bleach baths and/or the bleach powder/shampoo/oils method. And you really should only do one bleach a month. Though, bleaching colour out is the worst way and most damaging. It does seem like bleaching colour can actually make things worse with a stained colour as it appears to drive the colour further into the shaft making it even harder to remove. Bleach isn't made to remove fake colour and so doesn't do it effectively for the amount of damage it causes.

To add photo, either use the URL of the photo and paste it into the proper reply box, not the quick reply at the bottom of the main screen, highlight it and use the little tool that look like a tiny mona Lisa. Or, again in the proper reply box, look at the bottom of the reply box and look for the 'attachments and other options' bit. Open that and there's an option to add photos. They have to be fairly small file sizes though.

Edit to add, I missed you'd tried to add photos. I don't know what happened, but yes something went wrong!

Just my luck! I have to pick the hardest color to remove!  *stars*

Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to give me all that information! You've given me much to ponder! I will definitely wait at least a week in between attempts.

If the pink just won't come out at all, my backup plan is to go bright red instead. I can totally deal with a pink base for that.

I tried to paste the photo URLs but the error message says no external links. I give up! Lol!

No problem πŸ™‚ good luck, I hope I'm wrong and you do remove it without too much fall out. For want of a better phrase lol I hope there's no hair fall out at all πŸ˜‰
