Removing brown dye?

Hello everyone,

About 9 months ago I used box dye over blonde highlighted hair. I'm naturally a brunette and thought I might like my natural color back. I would like to go back blonde now and was wondering if there is anything that will remove the brown dye. It has faded quite a bit and the highlights are showing through as a caramel color. I heard about many different things to lighten it such as baking soda and head and shoulders, vitamin c, color oops, color fix and laundry detergent. Has anyone had any luck with any of these?

Thanks in advance!

I would go with the Colorfix. Only a colour remover will fully remove oxidative dye, and Colorfix is much better than Color Oops. You may need several applications to get it out fully

Thanks for the reply! Watching a YouTube video I saw that it turned a girls hair orange. Her hair was red to start but I am afraid of that result. Will it bring it back to the blonde color that's under it?

It might not get all the brown out in one go, and the brown could have stained your base, permanent dark dyes over bleached hair generally stain to some degree.
Also the box dye will have lightened your natural colour somewhat, so it will be warmer toned after the colour remover

I'm completely fine with a warmer tone. I just don't want orange or brass! Have you heard of any of the at home methods working? I'm fine with using color fix. Just not thrilled about the smell.

They will all fade dye, but not fully remove it unless it was a direct dye.
Direct dyes coat/stain the hair, but the peroxide used with permanent dyes causes a chemical reaction and pushes the artificial pigment deeper into the hair. Colour removers shrink the pigment molecules so they can be washed out.
No other method will remove it (Bleach can to a degree, because it breaks down the pigment, but i would not recommend bleaching out permanent dye)
