Re-dying after using colour b4

Hi, I used colour b4 a few years ago which went well, but then I dyed my hair again a mid brown and it went nearly black. I assumed I had left the dye on too long.
I used colour b4 again today and again it was sucessful and my hair was a very light brown with blonde roots (I am a natural blonde).
I just re-dyed it auburn and was careful not to leave the dye on too long this time. Again my hair went super dark, way darker then the colour on the box of auburn due, even though my hair was lighter than it!!

Am I doing something wrong?
It's so frustrating to spend hours lightening my hair for it just to go so dark again!
Please help!!
Thank you.
Sam

You shouldn't dye your hair the same day as using ColourB4. What CB4 does is shrink the color molecules so that they can be washed out, hence the long rinsing time. If there is any color molecules left in your hair and you dye it, the peroxide can cause them to reoxidise and your hair will turn dark again. Often your hair will be a bit porous after CB4 too which can make it take too much dye. You should go a few days without washing your hair before dying with peroxide to prevent damage as well.

So - CB4, rinse a looot, then wash your hair a few times through the course of a week (at least) to make sure all color molecules are out, then you can dye it. πŸ™‚

Yep, you shouldn’t ever use a permanent dye on freshly washed hair, it can cause chemical burns on your scalp.
