Possibly coconut oil's magic? My salon experience

I've been using coconut oil religiously every week for probably about  5 months, keeping it for about 2-3 days in my hair and on my scalp.

I wanted to go blonde without bleaching the ends of my hair, hashtag team ombrΓ©

I had very dark brown roots, almost black, that lifted INSTANTLY to blonde with JUST 20 vol developer!! No orange red nothing. Pale yellow in about 25 min, wish the girl at the salon kept it for shorter than 45 though.

I didn't have coconut oil in my hair at the time of bleaching, in case they didn't like it or whatever. I was pretty much expecting bright orange roots but coconut oil literally changed my hair as I remember, they didn't lift that easily, heck no, I remember me having orangey bits

Thanks guys for all the knowledge I gained here, I was literally teaching dem guys in the salon about you, you rock!!!

I'll insert pics when I have better access to them πŸ˜€

Well, i don't mean to rain on your parade... But it could also be that the weather is warmer now (unless you're in an area that's warmer all year around). Or that they used a different bleach powder that your hair responds well to. I doubt that the coconut oil would be anything much to do with it lifting faster.

Some people have said that their hair seems to lift better with coconut oil but I don't think scientifically there's any connection with it at all. Like Janine said, if it's warmer that would be a factor, but I think she may have used a good bleach on you, like Matrix Light Master, Wella Blondor Crème, Loreal Infanie Platine, etc...Matrix lifts very well and quickly, much more than the majority of brands out there. For example with my hair, a resistant level 6, all the bleaches I'd ever tried, using straight 30 for 45 minutes with some added partial heat would only lift me to a golden yellow. With LM, I can use 15 vol ( a 30 vol bleach bath) for only 25 minutes and I'm pale yellow. Coconut oil is amazing though! Super great to use before bleaching, it's antifungal properties can help make some people's hair grow faster, the moisture you get from it, it's great for moisturizing skin + lips, a great makeup/mascara remover, takes away cradle cap, there's oil pulling, and I've been using it as my makeup remover and also as a face wash, I scrub it in like I would a soap, rinse off as much as I can then wipe off the rest + my skin has been so clear, I don't even get any of those little blackheads/spots in the crease of your chin/sides of your nose anymore

That's when they actually have the oil on with bleaching and that wasn't even the case here πŸ™‚

Ohh I see!

No, I don't take it as raining on my parade πŸ˜€ I see it as a learning opportunity. I had my hair bleached in Thailand so that's probably why, as it's super hot in there!

I should tone it this sunday, wish me luck!! <3
