poss a really stupid question about Jerome russell bleach

Ive been dying my hair for over 30 years now, so I feel really silly asking this.  Jerome Russell bleach , the powder which you add the peroxide to,  on the box it says high lift powder bleach;  Ive used it so many times without really taking notice of the high lift wording.  Ive read on the forum many times about high lift colours only being used on virgin hair,  when talking about box colours etc.  so is this bleach powder the same kind of thing?  I use it for lifting roots, bleach baths, and have never thought about it before.

No, that means it's got a strong developer, most likely 30 or 40 vol.

The problem with high lift colours is the high ammonia content and this can cause excessive damage to processed hair. Bleaches contain less ammonia in comparison.

Yes, it is just bleach, not a high lift colour.
It is not very good bleach though IME. You will get as much lift with a professional quality bleach and a lower vol peroxide which will save you a lot of damage

It's a useless bleach. I ended up getting some a few months ago for various reasons and sorely regretted it. It's more damaging for much less lift. I'm using blondor and Blondeme at the moment. Not at the same time of course! They always seem to be out of one or the other in the nearest Sally's to me now I've moved lol

I will have to take a trip to sallys, I might get off the train a few stops early tomorrow to go to my nearest one and have a proper look, thank you

I use matrix light master.
For many years I thought all bleach was pretty similar, but it really isn't. Totally worth investing in a good one. I still use cheap generic peroxide with it though.

I use trulites bleach with silverizing agent. similar to the blue one. I have very dark hair and it takes me to a pale yellow in 30 minutes with 30vol. or 40 minutes with 20vol. I have been using it for 8 years and never had a problem with it. a large box will last me the whole year.

as for the Jerome Russell, I used it once before I discovered Sally's and it ruined my hair. One application completely fried my fringe πŸ™ first and last time I bought bleach from a high street shop.

I've been using Jerome Russell bleach sachets for a few years out of convenience since it's what I can easily buy around here. I haven't had any problems with it, but I would imagine that's down to only needing to bleach my roots dark yellow/light orange due to dying my hair very dark blue, before that very dark purple. Also, I always dilute it with some shampoo, and coconut soak my hair first. My hair is strong too, though ends get dry at this time of the year (I have long hair).

I've been putting off getting a good bleach due to the above factors. But now I'd like to go a bit lighter with my colours which may involve more careful bleaching for a lighter base. I have no Sally's here. Where would you all recommend I buy good bleach since I don't know of any place I can get those you all mentioned around mine?

Thanks in advance πŸ™‚

Ok, thanks, I've just been having a look on Amazon, now it's about which one to choose, taking all your above recommendations.

How long will both the bleach powder and developers last once they've been open though? I only tend to do my roots only every couple of months. That's been another reason other than pure convenience of popping into a local shop, bleach sachets and individual develop bottles don't have time to expire.

as long as they are not mixed and kept in a dry environment out of the sun, they should be fine to keep for a long time. I usually only buy bleach once a year or year and a half and a bottle of developer will usually last about the same.

Ok, I'll make sure to store them right then. Now I just have to decide between Blondme, Blondor, or Matrix Light Master.

I still have two Jerome Russell sachets though, I don't like to waste, but all this talk on here has gone me scared, even though I've not had a problem with it for my previous needs lol!

Thanks for starting this thread pinkseasider! Was going to ask about this, you saved me the trouble! πŸ™‚
