Hi! First of all let me apologize for asking a question that has more than likely been asked and answered a 100 times before but I for the life of me can't find this info without wading through many posts. Hey if it was quite simple to find, I apologize even more so.

Anyhoo, Basically I'm planing on doing a bleach bath.  I've read up and watched videos but there's thing I'm still not sure about. What brand of Bleach and Developer do I go for? and where do I get it?

Now I know it's pretty much down to personal preference but I want to get an idea. I've used various boxed drugstore bleaches and Stargazer in the past but if I'm doing a couple of bb's, I imagine it will cost to buy Stargazer.

Sorry for rambling, I'm tired and eager to get started and thank you to anyone who helps. 🙂

A lot of people here like Matrix Light Master and L'Oreal Infinite Platine as their bleach powder, but I believe they're quite pricey. I myself just use the cheapest brand my local store sells, and it still gives me the desired amount of lift.

As for developer, I think everyone agrees the brand doesn't really matter. I'd get a cheap generic brand. Never higher than 30 volume though!

Thank you for replying, you've helped me a great deal. I probably won't get those if they are expensive but it's good to know it doesn't matter too much about the developer.  I have my eye on a couple of bleaches, just have to pray they are ok lol

What I've heard about those pricey ones is that they lift your hair faster in less time - so it's better for your hair. It all depends on your budget and what you want, really. How much lift do you want? What is your goal colour?

I'm hoping to spend under £20 but I don't know if that's realistic.

I wanted to try pastel but I'm probably just going to go red.

This is the bleach I'm considering http://www.amazon.co.uk/Truzone-Trulites-Rapid-Powder-Bleach/dp/B004XLJ5O4/ref=sr_1_3?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1407231893&sr=1-3&keywords=Truzone

The base you need for a pastel is vastly different from the base you need for reds. Most reds go over gingers perfectly, whereas you definitely need a near-white base (inside of a banana peel yellow) for pastels. What is your hair colour now? Is it dyed or virgin?

I do not have any experience with the bleach you're considering.

I shaved my head over a year ago but there was still traces of bleach/dye in it, then in October I died it a natural dark colour. I had a pixie cut at the time.

I've watched loads of videos so know pastel is a lot of work, I'm only now considering red because my fiance put on his parts because he wants me to go red again lol So it will more than likely be red that I choose.

If your hair is dyed with a box dye (so with peroxide) I suggest using a colour remover like Colour B4 or Decolour Remover. It might reveal a gingery base so you can put red over it without even needing bleach, or it gives you a head start and you won't need as much bleaching.

It was super short at the time and it's now shoulder length so surely most of it has grown out?

Thank you Sia, it's reassuring that someone else has used it.

Ah, I'm sorry, I didn't realise you don't have a pixie anymore. Yes, most of it has probably grown out.

So what colour is your hair now? If you're going red, you might be able to bleach bathe instead of a full bleach to get ginger for red. Make sure to slather your hair in coconut oil hours beforehand, it really makes a difference in damage. 🙂

No worries 🙂

My hair is darkish brown atm and I'm currently on the hunt for some coconut oil.

I always used the cheap generic stuff from Sallys until recently. Better brands such as Wella Blondor or Matrix light Master do  lift much quicker, so you can use a lower vol peroxide and get the same result. They are supposedly less damaging too, but i haven't really seen a difference as I've only used them on my roots.

I use freeze icelites purple bleach. Works really well on my almost black hair and it tones it as well which is great for when i go pastel or light shades. A large box is about £15 at sallys. I use it with wella or sallys brand 30 vol peroxide

I have very dark, very resistant hair.  I have recently switched to Schwarzkopf Blond Me, and it takes my roots from a level 2 to a level 9 in 1 hour with 25 volume.  I haven't been able to break through a level 8 in the past without double processing, even with 30 volume - so I am in love!
