I did also read today that you should add the lemon juice or baking soda after everything else in your hair b/c the foaming is a good thing. *shrug*

the reason for the lemon is when sam deep cleans her dreads she pours bicarb &nlemon juice in a bowl of water and dunks her head in to clean. so we were just adding things to this list so see what works.

with & without the lemon juice is still creates a crazy amount of foam. its just what we did & found works for our hair. is no science behind it. people can add or remove any of the ingredients if they so desire =)

That actually makes perfect sense, because the bicarb will foam and the lemon will disinfect.

This, I also use tea tree oil in the water, but leave it out of the fading recipe.

Take it slowly, I pushed my hair almost too far when I was fading.

Just wondering, are there any specific measurements for this? I bought bicarb yesterday, but I've no idea how much I should put in!

I personally added enough to form a paste, but I think people just do it haphazardly, I think I only used 1/2 tsp, but I have short hair.. so up to you :)(I did it with i love juicy and bicarb with a bit of lemon and made a paste and it was good 🙂 )

I add roughly equal amounts of shampoo, fairy up liquid and bicarb, and it's a kind of gloopy consistency.

I have a lot of hair, so I use a heaped teaspoon of bicarb and then about twice as much of shampoo to make sure everything is well covered. It aways froths up anyway, so there's quite a lot.

If you had to use a developer, then it's permanent.

Permanents are more difficult to lift because they deposit replacement colour molecules in the shaft of the hair whereas veggie dyes act like a stain--so you scrub a stain enough, it will eventually lift, but this not always the case for a permanent dye.  Reds do fade pretty fast, though, but if you have no luck with this method then it might be time to try Decolour Remover.

yeah its perm then ..typical... if when my ends are faded enough and its time to do my bleach bath i start at the roots and growth were the perm dye is and give this more time than my ends , will that help to lift it out enough? or will the bleach bath not touch it much either?
