Opinions needed... bleach/ colour remove/ leave alone

hi guys. Looking for some opinions on thoughts on my hair journey please. A few months ago I tried removing black from my hair to get a mid brown light enough to put a red veggie dye on to achieve a deep red. It didn't work unfortunately as the black just wouldn't budge. After coming on here to look for help with my friends hair I decided to bleach bath both our hair and both our hair stayed black :/ she has since been to a hair dresser and had hers done there, I on the other hand have just been letting my hair grow and trying to fade it some and to an extent it's working as it's more a dark brown than a black now.
Yesterday I snipped a bit of hair to see if bleach would lighten it and unfortunately it stayed black so I've saved myself the damage of a full head atleast.
I want to know what you guys think may be the problem. I was thinking about it being too damaged but my hair dresser said that actually it's just slightly dry so now I am at a loss. I don't want to just bleach it since I don't want it to be loads lighter and I want to avoid that amount of damage
Do you think I should try colour removers again or just continue to let it fade and baby it for a whlie. Has anyone had this before? My hair dresser seems to think she will be able to lift it out but I have my doubts about that sort of thing being done in the salon since I've had my hair fried in a salon years ago. Any help is greatly appreciated even if it's not what I want to hear.

I highly doubt she'll be able to lift it, not if colour removers and bleach have done nothing. I'm afraid I think you're better off growing it out.

What black dyes did you use and did you use straighteners. Also, do you use serums of any kind?

It is looking like that may be my option. I very rarely use heat on my hair it's probably had heat on it less that 10 times this year and most of that is because the salon I go to refuse to let me leave without drying and straightening because they apparently can't see if it's an even cut since my hair is wavy (I disagree with this greatly but I live in the middle of nowhere and I have few options for hair dressers) I use tres emme naturals shampoo and conditioner I was co washing until about 4 months ago. The black was 1 schwartzkopf black which I know are terrible for removing but I have done it before and 1 boots own "semi" natural black. Umm serums etc I use coconut oil or macadamia oil depending on what my hair feels like and palmers leave in conditioner. Trying to give an honest account of what I use. My hair is extremely thick also and has reoxidised repeatedly in the past.

It is actually true that it's hard to tell if it's an even cut until it's dry.

Sounds like you're just really unlucky. If you used heat with that black dye, I'd definitely say it's melted silicone holding the colour in. It could be that your hair is in good condition and the cuticle isn't lifting enough when using the remover.

Are you clarifying your hair before doing the remover? Are you rinsing for EVER with as hot as you can stand water?

Your hair being thick isn't likely to be a reason it reoxidised though.

I do get what they mean I just hate having my hair straight lol. Um yeah I clarify using pantenes clarifying shampoo, I've tried the scott Cornwall one but they both do the same thing. I rinse forever. Usually about half an hour as it's the longest I can stand and I keep my hair moving by using a massive comb while I'm rinsing. I've even tried the stop and dry method someone posted on here and it made little difference. Maybe I am just one of those people with hair that won't budge I don't know. It's frustrating lol! I don't mind growing it out but I'd love to be able to just get that red I've never had this problem before and I've been so many different colours.

Yeah, well, it is wrong that it has to be straight!

Black can be a massive pain I'm afraid! As it grows out, you could do a reverse ombre?

Might have to look at some reverse ombres lol. I'll definitely leave it alone for a bit. At least my hair grows fast so I have that going for me, just a shame my hair is black/ brown and my roots are such a light brown!
